About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Project Accountant to join our team at Nautilus Homes. As a key member of our financial team, you will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of our construction projects, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial reports to ensure timely and accurate invoicing.
  • Monitor and control project costs, identifying and addressing variances to maintain profitability.
  • Prepare and review project billing, ensuring accuracy and compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Reconcile project accounts and resolve discrepancies to maintain financial integrity.
  • Create project accounts in the accounting system and authorize access to project-related accounts.
  • Review and approve supplier invoices, time sheets, and overhead charges related to projects.
  • Investigate project variances and submit variance reports to management for review and action.
  • Confer with receivables staff regarding unpaid contract billings and report on project profitability.
  • Report to management regarding the remaining funding available for projects and create all project-related billings to customers.
  • Investigate all project expenses not billed to customers and respond to customer requests for more detail.
  • Approve the write-off of any project-related billings that cannot be billed to or collected from customers.
  • Close out project accounts upon project completion and create and submit government reports and tax returns related to projects.
  • Compile information for internal and external auditors, as required.
  • Collaborate with project managers to develop and maintain project schedules and budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting to support decision-making and assist in the preparation of financial statements and audits.
  • Maintain accurate and organized project documentation and records.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Proficiency in Sage 100 Contractor accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • In-depth experience and proficiency in Procore Financials.
  • CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction accounting or project accounting.
  • Strong understanding of construction project accounting principles.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
