Patient Care Assistant

Position Overview:
The Patient Care Assistant provides essential support to patients under the guidance of a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with personal hygiene, mobility, hydration, elimination, and nutritional needs.
- Administer routine treatments while ensuring a safe, clean, and organized environment for patients.
- Uphold the safety and security of patients, families, self, and the healthcare team.
- Ensure patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality are maintained.
- Adhere to standard precautions, including regular handwashing between patient interactions.
- Support the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for patients.
- Measure and document vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory rates as instructed.
- Collect and accurately record relevant patient information in accordance with Orlando Health policies.
- Identify and communicate significant information and safety concerns regarding patient conditions to the RN and other healthcare professionals.
- Engage in handoff reporting and conduct purposeful hourly rounding of patients.
- Deliver exceptional service and care to all patients, families, and team members.
- Demonstrate proficiency in specific tasks and skills as outlined by Orlando Health and unit-specific competencies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe nursing unit.
- Handle incoming phone calls, patient call lights, and guest requests efficiently.
- Transport and deliver items, equipment, blood products, and medications throughout the facility, excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs.
- May have limited access to medication storage areas.
- Consistently demonstrate punctual attendance in line with Orlando Health policies and applicable regulations.
- Comply with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Actively support and engage in planned changes within the organization.
- Participate in nursing Performance Improvement initiatives as assigned.
- Maintain awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Utilize time and resources effectively and efficiently.
- Attend hospital and unit staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Complete all mandatory training programs.
- Exhibit the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care based on developmental principles across the lifespan.
- Possess the ability to assess data reflective of patient status and interpret the necessary information to meet each patient's age-specific needs.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Licensure/Certification:
Must obtain BLS/Healthcare Provider certification within 30 days of hire.
Experience:
No prior experience required.
