Position Summary:

As a Regulatory Compliance Counsel, you will be at the forefront of analyzing and interpreting relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks, evaluating their implications for Acuity Brands Lighting, Inc. and its diverse business operations. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide expert regulatory guidance, ensuring that all compliance requirements are effectively met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Continuously monitor and stay informed about all applicable laws and regulations (federal, state, local, and international) that impact the organization, particularly in compliance, product standards, financial reporting, technology, communications, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) matters.
  • Interpret and analyze new and revised regulations to inform the business about potential impacts.
  • Work closely with key business leaders to ensure that policies, procedures, and processes are developed and implemented in alignment with relevant laws and regulations, while also assessing their effectiveness.
  • Identify and evaluate regulatory risks associated with new corporate initiatives and product launches.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams to develop advocacy strategies for interaction with regulators and policymakers, including drafting position papers and participating in advocacy efforts when necessary.
  • Support due diligence processes for potential acquisitions and assist with any necessary remediation or integration activities post-acquisition.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Exceptional ability to provide clear and insightful guidance to diverse stakeholders, simplifying complex legal information into actionable advice.
  • Proven track record of building collaborative relationships across various levels and departments, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.
  • Strong prioritization skills to manage competing demands from multiple stakeholders effectively.
  • Encouragement of innovative thinking and practical problem-solving approaches.
  • Commitment to working collaboratively across functions with a high level of engagement.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills, sound judgment, emotional intelligence, and independent thought.
  • Master's Degree or equivalent educational background.
  • J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school or an international equivalent.

Experience:

A minimum of 6 to 8 years of relevant experience in regulatory compliance or legal counsel.

Travel Requirements:

Domestic and/or International travel may be required, estimated at 0 - 25%.
