Position Summary:

As the Regulatory Compliance Counsel, you will spearhead the examination, evaluation, and interpretation of legislative and regulatory frameworks, determining their relevance and implications for Acuity Brands, Inc. and its diverse business units. Your role will involve collaborating with internal stakeholders to deliver regulatory insights and expertise, ensuring effective compliance with applicable mandates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Continuously monitor and stay informed about all levels of legislation (federal, state, local, and international) that affect the organization, particularly in compliance, product regulations, financial reporting, technology, communications, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria.
  • Interpret and analyze emerging and revised laws and regulations to provide strategic advice to the business.
  • Work closely with key business leaders to ensure that policies, procedures, and processes are crafted, executed, and maintained in alignment with relevant laws and regulations, while also confirming their effectiveness.
  • Evaluate applicable regulations and identify potential risks associated with new corporate strategies and product offerings.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams to develop advocacy strategies for interaction with regulators and policymakers, evaluate policy measures, draft position statements, and participate in advocacy initiatives as necessary.
  • Support due diligence efforts for potential acquisitions and assist in any necessary remediation or integration processes post-acquisition.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Exceptional ability to provide clear and insightful guidance to a diverse range of stakeholders, simplifying complex information into actionable advice.
  • Proven capability to foster collaborative relationships across various levels and departments, enhancing understanding and cooperation.
  • Strong prioritization skills to manage competing demands from multiple stakeholders effectively.
  • Encouragement of innovative thinking and practical solutions to challenges.
  • Willingness to engage collaboratively across multiple functions with a high level of involvement and contribution.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills, sound judgment, emotional intelligence, and independent thought.
  • Master's Degree or equivalent qualification.
  • J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school or its international equivalent.

Experience:

A minimum of 6 to 8 years of relevant experience is required.

Travel Requirements:

Domestic and/or International travel may be required, estimated at 0 - 25%.
