Haptic Technology Development Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled engineer with a strong background in mechanical and electromagnetic design to develop future generations of haptic technology and actuators.

The Haptic Engineering team is a highly multi-disciplinary team developing innovative haptic solutions that are central to Apple's products, such as the iPhone, Apple Watch, and Apple Pencil Our goal is to enable the world's best user-experience and explore the possibilities using haptics.

We work in a hands-on environment and value technical excellence and passion for innovation. New challenges arise every single day that require the sharp analytical skills of versatile and forward-thinking individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Generate concepts and solutions to multi-disciplinary haptic related challenges
  • Perform mechanical, magnetic, and electro-mechanical modeling to evaluate and optimize concepts and designs
  • Prototype, evaluate, and debug innovative ideas
  • Design and define mechanical components and assembly schemes
  • Define detailed specifications and engineering requirements
  • Participate in the development of new manufacturing and assembly processes with external vendors (including periodic international travel)

Requirements

  • Strong fundamental in mechanics
  • Experience with magnetic or motor design
  • Applied knowledge of electrical circuits, instrumentation, control, and basic programming
  • Experience using FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to guide design process
  • Experience with 3D CAD, 2D drafting, GD&T, and tolerance analysis
  • Team oriented with excellent written and verbal communication and leadership skills
  • BS and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Actuator system design experience is a plus
  • Hands-on detailed product design experience in consumer electronics products is a plus
  • Experience with mass production and design for manufacturing is a plus
