Overview of the Position

The Quality Assurance Specialist plays a vital role in the food safety and quality framework of the organization, tasked with overseeing, documenting, and enforcing standards while also training essential team members and implementing necessary corrective measures when needed.

This position is hands-on and highly interactive, situated within a dynamic and fast-paced production atmosphere. Key competencies include the ability to swiftly evaluate risks, guide a team towards informed decisions, and ensure the execution of plans effectively.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Duties

  • Supervise process controls (Critical Control Points, Allergen Management, Foreign Material Prevention, Labeling Standards, Package Integrity, Product Specifications) to guarantee compliance with all food safety and quality initiatives
  • Conduct sample collection as needed for microbiological or chemical evaluations (Aerobic Plate Count, Yeast & Mold, Water Activity, Moisture Content)
  • Execute product sampling and analysis to assess product texture and shelf-life
  • Diagnose and implement appropriate corrective actions when discrepancies arise
  • Document, monitor, and analyze data to promote continuous enhancement
  • Maintain an extensive understanding of all products produced by the facility, including raw materials, packaging components, and operational processes involved in manufacturing
  • Carry out quality audits (Acceptable Quality Levels) to confirm product compliance with specifications
  • Investigate customer feedback and internal issues, providing timely responses
  • Observe employees for adherence to proper work practices, including but not limited to Good Manufacturing Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures
  • Review documentation for accuracy and compliance with all food safety and quality protocols
  • Regularly engage with plant management teams (Production, Maintenance, Supply Chain)
  • Discuss monthly objectives and continuous improvement initiatives with the Quality Assurance Manager
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Quality Assurance Manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field or a minimum of one year of experience in a Quality Assurance role within a food manufacturing environment
  • Capability to evaluate risks and make decisions under pressure in a fast-paced production setting
  • Outstanding communication abilities
  • Proficiency in presenting information and addressing inquiries from groups of managers and/or colleagues
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight as well as collaboratively in a team setting
