Job Overview

The Operations Manager is tasked with the strategic planning, direction, and coordination of all activities within the manufacturing facility. By delegating responsibilities and assigning tasks to supervisors and managers, the Operations Manager ensures the plant operates efficiently and economically, aligning with established standards for quality, safety, cost, and delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee quality control, cost management, warehousing, receiving, shipping, and production across the facility.
  • Execute assignments as directed by upper management; foster effective working relationships within the facility and the broader community; maintain professional knowledge and skills necessary for fulfilling all responsibilities.
  • Manage administrative functions and employee relations, including recruitment, employee development, compensation, safety protocols, and organizational planning.
  • Analyze operational reports and records, recommending or implementing corrective actions to enhance continuous improvement.
  • Stay informed on manufacturing trends and developments for application within the plant, suggesting policy and procedural adjustments as necessary.
  • Establish performance benchmarks and optimize production layouts to ensure efficient product flow through various operations.
  • Drive initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiencies.
  • Contribute to management teams focused on organized change, problem-solving, and initiatives that lead to cost savings and process improvements.
  • Inspire and motivate all plant personnel to achieve maximum productivity; provide guidance and training to supervisors while ensuring adherence to company policies.
  • Promote open communication among employees and maintain an accessible management approach.
  • Assess manpower needs in alignment with corporate objectives and recommend procedural enhancements to support new product initiatives.
  • Act as a communication bridge between upper management and the workforce regarding company policies and changes.
  • Ensure the maintenance of the facility, grounds, and equipment to uphold a safe and productive working environment.
  • Authorize local expense payments within established limits and provide documentation for projects requiring external services.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, preferably as an Assistant Plant Manager.
  • A minimum of two years in plant management or four years in production management within a steel fabrication environment.
  • Proficient in Google Suite, Strumis, and other relevant software applications.
  • Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills.
  • Proven experience in employee development and performance evaluation.
  • Skilled in managing and assessing team members.
  • Understanding of task estimation at the shop level.
