Job Description

THE ROLE

We are expanding our business and seeking a highly skilled Commodity Trading Specialist to join our team at Freight Investor Services Ltd. in a mid-level role. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated individual who has a passion for the financial markets.

You will be responsible for promoting our company as a leading global brokerage of freight and commodities, providing market intelligence and analysis to clients. Your key responsibilities will include arranging physical or financial trades via voice broking on behalf of clients, maintaining and creating relationships with other brokers, and identifying and seizing new business opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Promote FIS as a company, providing market intelligence and analysis to clients.
  2. Arrange physical or financial trades via voice broking on behalf of clients.
  3. Maintain and create relationships with other brokers when there is no liquidity from Liquidity Providers.
  4. Maintain and enhance existing client relationships, making regular contact and tracking daily trading activities.
  5. Proactively solicit feedback from industry participants via trade calls, surveys, industry events, trade shows and conferences.
  6. Identify and seize new business opportunities relating to trends, future markets, products and clients.
  7. Produce a daily/weekly report of market prices, market direction for international desks.
  8. On-board new clients following correct Compliance and Operations procedures.
  9. Regularly assess client needs and financial conditions to identify and pursue internal cross-selling opportunities.

Requirements:

  1. Seek regular feedback from Management to ensure role requirements are met.
  2. Complete any mandatory training required by the company and required deadlines.
  3. Maintain own Continued Professional Development (CPD).
  4. Possess sound knowledge of Freight and Cross Commodity markets, as well as wider markets and current affairs; sound knowledge of derivatives/Options as well as underlying markets and technical aspects of broking – essential.
  5. Demonstrate experience as a broker covering commercial clients (financial or the physical markets).
  6. Deep understanding of price risk management - essential.
  7. Willing to travel to visit clients – essential.
  8. Robust analytical, sales and decision-making capabilities.
  9. Strong client focus; personable and engaging building relationships and networks wherever possible.
  10. Communicate effectively with clients and colleagues - essential.
  11. Tenacious and thrives in a pressurized environment – essential.
  12. Team oriented; works well with others and diverse groups/personalities – essential.
  13. Excellent attention to detail; strong analytical and numeracy skills – essential.
  14. Must be willing to take or have Series 3 NFA credentials.
