Context and Purpose

We aim to maintain a robust, efficient, and adaptable Regulatory Compliance function that can navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected global landscape. The primary responsibility of this role is to assist in the ongoing development and improvement of Diageo's Trade Compliance initiatives across North America. This encompasses operational procedures, customs valuation, product classification under the Harmonized System, compliance with Partner Government Agencies, governmental reporting, internal audits, adherence to free trade agreements, and ensuring compliance with international trade laws.

This position requires a thorough understanding of Customs and Trade regulations, policies, and best practices while identifying opportunities to enhance daily operations. The role reports directly to the Customs & Excise Manager.

Key Responsibilities

The scope of this position necessitates a solid understanding of North American Customs Regulations to support import compliance and processes for finished goods, including beer and spirits, as well as bulk goods, raw materials, packaging materials, and other commodities. Responsibilities include:

  • Timely and accurate execution of daily tasks and assigned projects while adhering to Key Performance Metrics and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Supporting compliance processes related to the PIP/CTPAT Supply Chain and Trade Compliance programs, Free Trade Agreements, and other related initiatives.
  • Collaborating with Diageo's Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Suppliers, Customs Brokers, North American Manufacturing Plants, and Innovation teams to ensure operational efficiency and compliance.
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with various stakeholders while demonstrating independence and proactivity.

Expected Outcomes

  • Identify and implement best practices and standards, ensuring that operational procedures are well-documented and defined.
  • Enhance user capabilities through onboarding, training, and the adoption of best-in-class tools.
  • Provide technical support and manage import procedures in compliance with all trade regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance through audits and process confirmations, proactively identifying issues or opportunities in trade compliance and recommending actionable solutions.
  • Establish and report Key Performance Metrics related to import and export activities.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Preferred qualifications include Licensed Customs Broker or Certified Customs Specialist.
  • The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, a self-starter, and well-versed in U.S. and Canadian Customs regulations, with a comprehensive understanding of supply chain processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required; strong knowledge of SAP is a plus.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in import/customs/trade compliance is preferred.
