Job Summary

We are seeking a Food Service Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and serving hot and cold food items at an assigned school site, maintaining food service facilities, equipment, and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition, and performing cashiering duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve hot and cold food items at an assigned school site according to established guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain food service facilities, equipment, and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition.
  • Perform cashiering duties as assigned, including collecting and counting money, making correct change, and preparing and balancing cash boxes.
  • Assist in the receipt, storage, and rotation of food items and supplies in storage areas as assigned.
  • Operate standard food service equipment, such as ovens, slicers, food carts, can openers, and warmers.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Basic food preparation skills, including washing, cutting, and assembling food items and ingredients.
  • Sanitation and safety practices related to preparing, handling, and serving food.
  • Standard kitchen equipment, utensils, and measurements.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic math and cashiering skills.
  • Proper lifting techniques.
  • Basic record-keeping techniques.
Working Conditions

The Food Service Assistant will work in a food service environment, subject to heat from ovens. The position requires dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone, bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching, reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally, sitting or standing for extended periods of time, seeing to read a variety of materials, lifting and moving office supplies and boxes, and seeing to monitor food quality and quantity.
