Drive, inform and deliver innovative risk strategies using proprietary systems/data sources / Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning models to achieve critical business goals, to enhance USAA’s position as provider of choice though delivery of innovative products, services and member experience. Work with business partners to establish robust, well controlled processes to insure high quality and accessible data and computational capabilities for industry leading model development. Present complex models and concepts to decision-makers, regulators, model risk management, and audit to facilitate development and leverage of advanced models to deliver well managed, resilient growth, member value and satisfaction, and compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

This position can work remotely in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel.

The Opportunity
  • Seeks new and emerging data sources, technology, and analytical techniques and determines applicability to product development, and develops stakeholder support.
  • Builds and manages high performing teams of analytical and business professionals through recruiting, training, coaching, performance management, and related managerial activities.
  • Develops and maintains a roadmap of data analytic product enhancements, in conjunction with other product development leaders.
  • Provides directional guidance and workload prioritization of operations for the the model development and COE assigned functions.
  • Demonstrates executive-level thought leadership, strategy development, and financial and operational planning.
  • Applies subject-matter-expert functional knowledge to lead subordinate teams in producing work deliverables in support of Bank, SRO, and Enterprise initiatives.
  • Oversees development of functional policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Identifies opportunities and facilitate major improvements to processes and systems.
  • Performs highly complex tasks with minimal supervision and use seasoned, thoughtful judgement to deviate from established procedures and guidelines, escalating decisions and notification as appropriate.
  • Ensures assigned models are registered in a comprehensive model inventory and provide independent oversight of assigned models to ensure that risks are fully understood and appropriately managed.
  • Promotes use of sound models to give trusted predictions and wise advice by keeping oversight efficient from the perspective of model development and use.
  • Leads teams dedicated to Governance and Coordination activities and validations of specific portfolios of models.
  • Adapts the tactics of model risk management to achieve strategic goals.

What you have:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics or other relevant quantitative discipline.  4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • 10 years of progressive related experience developing model risk strategies, managing major initiatives and delivering results within a complex matrix environment. 
    OR advanced degree/designation in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics or other relevant quantitative discipline to risk management and 8 years relevant risk management work experience.
  • 6 years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams.
  • Experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders, influencing decisions and managing work to achieve strategic goals.
  • Demonstrated understanding of advanced econometrics and statistics.
  • Experience leading a Model Risk Management function at a financial institution.
  • Experience at a large bank supervised by the Federal Reserve.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and influence at senior levels within the enterprise.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate analyses to a non-technical audience.
  • Knowledge of federal regulation 12 CFR Part 30, including Appendices A and D and with federal  supervisory guidance, to include:
    • OCC Documents: Large Bank Supervision Handbook; OCC Safety and Soundness Handbooks - Internal Control, Corporate & Risk Governance; and key OCC bulletins - Model Risk Governance, Model Risk Management,  Third Party Risk Management, Technology Risk Management, Stress Testing
    • Federal Reserve Documents: Consolidated Supervision Framework for Large Financial Institutions; Federal Reserve Board Bank Holding Company Supervision Manual; Guidance on Model Risk Management
    • FFIEC Manuals and Handbooks to include: Banking

    General understanding of federal laws, rules, and regulations, to include:
    • CRA; ECOA; FCRA; MLA; SCRA; Regulation DD; Regulation E; Regulation Z; BSA/AML; and UDAP/UDAAP

    *Laws and Regulations for illustrative purposes. Roles would need an understanding of all federal and state laws and regulatory guidance applicable to the organization and responsibilities of the role.

What we offer:

Compensation:

USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this position is: $216,750 - $390,150.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

Long Term Incentive Plan: Cash payment for Executive level roles only, representing a cash payment which is both time and performance based.
