The Opportunity

As a dedicated Director of Model Validation for Fraud, you will be accountable for the development and mentoring of a hard-working team that provides oversight and effective challenge of models across the enterprise. Conducts and develops quantitative and analytic approaches, assessments and/or applications in support of model risk management efforts that assess the risks of new and existing financial products. Influences processes at both the business unit and enterprise level and leads and sets the agenda for risk management deliverables. Responsible for influencing complex decisions at both the enterprise and business unit level applying advanced analytical results that assess future risks, opportunities, and efficiency. Leads or provides direction to cross-functional teams to achieve enterprise objectives.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, Chesapeake, VA or Tampa, FL.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

This position can work remotely in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel.

What you'll do:

  • Leads teams that optimally challenges and coordinates use of advanced modeling methodologies, including financial, mathematical, statistical, data science, AI and machine learning, to assess future risk, opportunities, and fit-for-purpose.
  • Leads all aspects of model validation and model governance efforts.
  • Translates results into meaningful solutions to enhance decision making.
  • Presents results to various levels of leadership and influences key decisions that have business unit or enterprise impact.
  • Applies model risk industry standard methodologies to quantify risk and aggregate exposures.
  • Leads all aspects of the development of complex systems and programs that measure aggregate risk exposures.
  • Applies innovative and scientific/quantitative analytical approaches to draw conclusions and make recommendations to answer business objectives and motivate change.
  • Oversees the production of advanced analytical material and models for discussions with cross functional teams to understand complex business objectives and influences solution strategies.
  • Effectively communicates analytical results, findings and solutions to governance committees, senior leaders, regulatory bodies, and the USAA Board of Directors.
  • Interacts with internal and external partners during audits, regulatory reviews and/or rating agency requests.
  • Educates risk owners on risk management standard methodologies and may work with other risk functions in the development and implementation of risk controls.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Actuarial Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 8 years related quantitative analysis experience in a field relevant to risk management to include statistical analysis, modeling, mathematics or other quantitative field
  • 3 years of direct team lead or management experience.
  • Strong experience developing and communicating complex quantitative/technical concepts and conclusions to senior leadership, auditors, and/or regulators.
  • Experience with various programming languages.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical, econometric, data science and predictive modeling approaches utilized in the financial services industry.
  • Experience in modeling governance techniques and approaches.

  • Masters Degree in a quantitative subject area
  • Over 5 years of experience with model validation
  • Experience performing end to end model development
  • Experience performing model development/model validation within Bank Financial Crimes domain

What we offer:

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $158,960 - $286,130.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
