Quality Assurance Inspector I Job Description Quality Assurance Inspector I Under the direction of the Quality Manager and Supervisor, the inspector tests and inspects products at various stages of production process and compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products. This shift is scheduled for Monday - Thursday 6pm - 6am after the training period. Who are we? Founded in 1849, Ducommun is the oldest company in California. Selects products for tests at specified stages in production process, and tests products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical, electrical, or chemical characteristics. Records test data. Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards. Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability. May prepare graphs or charts of data or enters data into computer for analysis. Performs flat plate first parts and production inspection and supports production personnel in determining conformance of product by using product acceptance media. Completes First Article Inspection Reports. Generates MRR Tags. Leads quality meetings on limited subjects. Participates in root cause analyst for corrective actions. Performs Receiving Inspection and validates Product Verification. Performs Final Inspection/Dimensional Inspection and reviews work orders for accuracy. Facilitates Customer Source Inspection (Parts & Tooling) less the “Scheduling” of these activities. Works with Production Expeditors and maintains and facilitates the Shop Risk System. Supports, prepares for, and facilitates customer source inspection. Perform calibration on various tools Proficient at mentoring other operators with evaluating and resolving process issues. Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area. Performs other duties and assignments as directed. Intermediate computer knowledge and skills Ability to use measuring instruments including but not limited to calipers, height gage, and scales Ability to determine acceptable product versus unacceptable product at inspection stages Ability to prepare and present “source inspection packages” to customer source inspectors Has a good memory for detail Strong analytical and communication skills Conscientious, organized and meticulous – records must be accurate and maintained Read and understand internal procedures and policies Understand and follow through on both verbal and written instructions Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook Works independently with minimal supervision Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered. High School Diploma; Some College preferred ; up to 5 years related experience in job function and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mylars and other inspection media Knowledge of ISO and SPC is a plus Intermediate computer knowledge and skills Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Annual eye exam is required Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls Frequently required to reach with hands and arms Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch Must be able to communicate effectively Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds Working conditions are: 5% office environment, 95% manufacturing environment. Noise level is usually moderate. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and extreme heat. Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in all manufacturing areas. Hearing protection must be worn in designated areas. Safety Footwear shall be in accordance with the following: ASTM standard F2413-05 with minimum impact resistance, compression resistance and metatarsal designation ratings of 75 foot pounds (i.e. ASTM F2413-05 I/75 C/75 Mt/75), which are viewable on the inside tag of footwear.
