Role Overview:
The Technical and Failure Investigation Department (TFI) is a key component of Lloyd's Register Professional Services, dedicated to delivering exceptional advisory services focused on the investigation of technical failures and issues for clients worldwide. Our mission is to conduct thorough engineering assessments and evaluations of systems and components, enabling marine operators to reduce operational downtime effectively.
Utilizing both fundamental and advanced engineering expertise, we strive to identify and analyze the root causes of failures, providing tailored solutions that facilitate a swift return to operational status.
The TFI team operates globally, with a strong presence in the UK and several engineers stationed worldwide.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct a diverse array of technical and failure investigations, including on-site assessments and collaboration with our advanced materials and instrumentation laboratory.
- Provide technical support across various teams, including Risk Reliability, Human Factors, and Environmental teams as needed.
- Deliver comprehensive analysis and formal reports within established timelines and formats.
- Engage with internal and external clients to discuss findings and propose alternative solutions where applicable.
- Ensure consistency in proposals and align with established procedures to meet client expectations.
- Assess and recommend the scope of work and associated costs for client projects, adhering to commercial contract parameters.
- Actively contribute to service delivery improvements based on client feedback and internal evaluations.
- Share knowledge and mentor colleagues to foster technical skill development within the team.
- Adhere to internal processes, industry standards, and legislation throughout all activities.
Candidate Qualifications:
- A degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or physical sciences from a recognized institution, or relevant marine qualifications with sea-going experience.
- Proficiency in English, particularly in writing formal technical reports.
- Familiarity with MATLAB for data analysis and processing.
- Strong knowledge of marine power plant machinery, including internal combustion engines, electric motors, and propulsion systems.
- Experience in the installation and measurement of ship propulsion systems, including metrology and system modeling.
- Ability to apply technical knowledge to a variety of investigations in the marine and offshore sectors, delivering timely solutions that meet client needs.
- Willingness to travel for assignments, including work in shipyards or on vessels, as required.
