Job Summary The Health Information Specialist operates in a team with other clinic support staff and healthcare providers. The Specialist is responsible for distributing and filing patient health information. The Specialist maintains a list of charts in archives; retrieves charts from archives when needed; receives and processes releases of information (ROIs); assists with and coordinates the data collection for chart audits and quality reviews as assigned; responds to EHR tasks and telephone calls and assists patients regarding health information in a timely manner: assists in the release of medical information and ensures that the release of information is complete according to CHC policy and HIPAA guidelines and documents all communications with patients in EHR as appropriate. Credentials Preferred: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) by the American Health Information Management Association.
