Additional Department Summary: The College of Education, Special Education and Multiple Abilities Department is seeking to hire a full-time, one-year Data Technician to implement an early literacy intervention and administer assessments to students with Intellectual and Developmental Delays and collect data. Dr. Gregory J. Benner, O'Sullivan Professor in the College of Education, and Dr. June L. Preast, Associate Professor in the College of Education, have secured an Institute of Education Sciences (IES) grant, Project Intensity, to evaluate the effectiveness of a literacy intervention, Friends on the Block (FOTB), with students with Intellectual and Developmental Delays (IDD). This project is in its final year of data collection, ending May 2025. The purpose of Project Intensity is to conduct a randomized control trial to evaluate the efficacy of a literacy intervention designed to enhance reading and language outcomes for elementary students with IDD. The University of Alabama (UA) is assessing students with IDD and providing the FOTB intervention to 60 children while observing the business-as-usual reading instruction to another group of 60 children. Children receiving the FOTB intervention participate in the intervention every school day for about 20-30 minutes per day for 42 weeks. The Data Technician will work closely with the project team. Data Technician will provide the FOTB intervention daily to individual or small groups of children and will administer a battery of assessments (WIAT-IV, EVT-3, PPVT-5, CTOPP-2, CUBED CBM, KBIT-2, and FOTB Word List) in the fall and spring to students. The Data Technician will aid in administering monthly progress monitoring (CUBED CBM & FOTB Word List) to students. The assessments will be administered orally and with paper & pencil. The scoring of the assessments will be done through online scoring and through paper & pencil. The Data Technician will work closely with the PI, Co-PI, and Education Research Facilitator on data entry and data management. Continuation is dependent on yearly funding and satisfactory annual evaluation.

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and some experience working with elementary students with Intellectual and Developmental Delays (IDD) and/or some experience administering standardized norm-referenced assessments to K-12 student.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience administering cognitive and achievement assessments to K-12 students. Experience collecting and managing data on research projects.

Background Investigation Statement: Prior to hiring, the final candidate(s) must successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation and information obtained from social media and other internet sources. A prior conviction reported as a result of the background investigation DOES NOT automatically disqualify a candidate from consideration for this position. A candidate with a prior conviction or negative behavioral red flags will receive an individualized review of the prior conviction or negative behavioral red flags before a hiring decision is made.
