Department Overview: The Emergency Medical Technician plays a crucial role in delivering pre-hospital emergency medical services and transporting patients in critical conditions, as well as providing non-emergency medical transport when necessary.

Key Responsibilities: As a vital component of an integrated EMS response framework, this position operates under medical supervision. Responsibilities include the timely and accurate completion of incident documentation.

Essential Qualifications: A High School Diploma or GED is required. Candidates must hold a valid Emergency Medical Technician license issued by the State of Alabama.

Additional Required Qualifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR/AED First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain these certifications upon hire. The role necessitates the capability to lift or push up to 200 pounds, as it involves assisting in the evacuation of individuals during emergencies.

Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license and be at least 19 years old at the time of hiring, with a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report in compliance with University policies. Candidates under 21 will face certain driving restrictions.

Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees will be required to undergo and successfully pass a post-offer drug screening.

Skills and Competencies: Applicants should have a solid understanding of the physical layout and street systems of the University of Alabama campus and its vicinity. Familiarity with standard ambulance equipment and communication tools, including telephones and two-way radios, is essential.

Candidates must demonstrate excellent clinical, organizational, and administrative capabilities. Effective communication with colleagues and healthcare professionals is crucial, along with the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding protected health information and adhere to HIPAA regulations.

Applicants should possess the ability to manage stressful situations, demonstrate adaptability, and exhibit a high level of self-motivation and initiative. Proficiency in data entry and Microsoft Office applications is also required, along with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
