Position Summary:

The Computer Help Desk Technician I is responsible for providing first-level technical support to end users. This role involves responding to and resolving basic technical issues, maintaining and updating computer systems, and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction. The technician will work under the guidance of IT management to ensure efficient operation and support of IT services.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive.

Technical Support:
  • Respond to user inquiries via phone, email, or in-person.
  • Diagnose and resolve basic technical issues related to hardware, software, and network connectivity.
  • Escalate more complex issues to higher-level support staff when necessary.
System Maintenance:
  • Perform routine maintenance and updates on computer systems and software.
  • Install and configure new hardware and software applications.
  • Ensure that all systems are running efficiently and effectively.
Customer Service:
  • Provide excellent customer service to end users.
  • Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor when assisting users.
  • Follow up with users to ensure issues are resolved and satisfaction is achieved.
Documentation and Reporting:
  • Document all support activities, including problem resolution and user interactions.
  • Maintain accurate records of hardware and software inventory.
  • Generate reports on support activities as required.
Training and Education:
  • Assist in training end users on the use of hardware and software.
  • Stay updated on the latest technology trends and advancements.
  • Other Duties:
  • Assist with special projects as directed by IT management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware, software, and networking principles.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with common operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux) and office software (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace).
Qualifications:

Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. An associate's degree in a related field or technical certifications (such as CompTIA A+, Network+, etc.) is preferred.
Experience:
  • At least two (2) years of computer experience including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel) and diagnostic software.

Working Conditions:

This position typically operates in an office environment. May require occasional evening or weekend work to address urgent technical issues or to perform system upgrades. Must be able to lift and move computer equipment as necessary. Must be able to sit for extended periods while working on computer tasks.
