Overview

CFR’s David Rockefeller Studies Program is one of the country’s largest foreign policy think tanks with a widely respected and influential research staff. The Studies Program aims to advance the discussion of American foreign policy and international affairs through its writing, publications, public outreach, and discussions.

The Associate Director will work under the direction of the James H. Binger Senior Fellow in Global Governance on projects related to international institutions and global governance. This position is based in CFR’s Washington, DC office on a hybrid basis. CFR currently defines hybrid status as working at least three days a week onsite, with Tuesdays and Thursdays considered institutional anchor days where all staff are required to be onsite.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):
  • Assist director in overseeing the policy and programmatic operations of the Council of Councils (CoC) by monitoring global events, identifying opportunities to promote international cooperation on transnational challenges, engaging CoC members and listening to feedback, and identifying opportunities to leverage, collaborate, and deepen strategic partnerships with CoC institutes.
  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of policy guidance from the James H. Binger senior fellow for global governance and other senior staff to carry out effective and efficient day-to-day CoC operations and long-term strategy.
  • Provide programming support for the CoC initiative, including communication with CoC partner institutions, preparation for CoC conferences, and coordination of ongoing projects, such as CoC global memos and CoC global perspectives. Coordinate production and implementation of potential new products.
  • Coordinate events, including preparing invitations, travel arrangements, corresponding with speakers and presiders, helping to prepare background papers and materials for distribution, and providing other logistical support.
  • Help manage marketing, promotional efforts, updates to website content, and social media outreach for the Council of Councils, and oversee the execution of these plans.
  • Assist director in the development of the CoC editorial strategy based on impact and data and work with cross-functional teams and internal and external partners in publishing.
  • Manage international institutions and global governance programmatic work, including budgeting, grant reports, and CFR internal reporting and strategy memos; and supervise the IIGG intern.
  • Help monitor, research, and analyze global governance and U.S. foreign policy trends, track trends in the work of major think tanks around the world and coordinate CoC publications.
Qualifications
  • Degree in International relations, political science, or related field with high academic achievement. Master's degree preferred
  • Knowledge of current international issues.
  • 5 + years of related research, programming, and project management experience.
  • Excellent writing, research, and editing skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and the Internet.
  • Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.

Pay Range

$65,000 to $70,000 per year

Pay commensurate with experience and education
