The Council for Opportunity in Education (“COE” or “the Council”) seeks an eager and energetic candidate to serve as the Executive Assistant to the President. Reporting to the President, the Executive Assistant will play a critical role in helping the Council achieve its mission of advancing educational opportunities for low-income, first-generation college students. This multifaceted position provides rewarding opportunities for learning and growth. The Executive Assistant will provide general administrative support to the President and assist with numerous projects across various functional areas of the Council. The Executive Assistant will also work closely with peers within the organization as a collaborative partner on a variety of company-wide projects. Responsibilities:
  • Provide administrative support to the President, to include calendar management and coordination of internal and external meetings.
  • Provide general administrative and clerical support to the President and relevant staff as directed by the President to support the mission of the Council. This includes mailing; preparing and modifying documents; handling internal and external correspondence; making travel arrangements; and coordinating virtual calls.
  • Work in collaboration with colleagues on various activities of the Council, including working directly with the Board of Directors.
  • Participate in the planning, coordination, and implementation of the annual COE events, including the Annual Conference, Policy Seminar, and Board of Directors meetings.
  • Research specific topics related to higher education matters (e.g., financial aid, college admissions, wellness, etc.).
  • Responsible for ensuring office supplies are inventoried and replenished.
  • Other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally and interacting effectively with employers, students, alumni, and university personnel.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Awareness and sensitivity into matters pertaining to low-income students, first-generation students, students with disabilities, and other groups underrepresented in higher education.
  • Knowledge of the Federal TRIO Programs.
Knowledge Of:
  • Computer database software, spreadsheets, and word processing and the ability to understand integrated computer systems (e.g., Microsoft 365, Asana).
Skills In:
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication; collaborating cross-functionally and interacting effectively with team members, students, alumni, and other constituents; organizing information and projects; problem solving; adhering to deadlines; taking initiative; adaptability; proactive outreach; and interpersonal and customer service.
Ability To:
  • Work with a non-profit board of directors and organize board of directors meetings and materials and coordinate travel; plan and manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously and balance priorities under time constraints, while maintaining strong attention to detail; take initiative to solve problems; communicate effectively both orally and in written form; work well under pressure, ability to meet tight deadlines; manage confidential and sensitive information; and exercise strong judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
  • Travel domestically on occasion to COE conferences and meetings.
