Location: Durham, NC

Summary:

The Quality Inspector is based at Bell and Howell's Durham, NC HQ office, with operations throughout the U.S. and Canada, and has overall responsibility for inspection of raw materials, work in process, finished goods, and incoming parts.

*Ideal candidate would have shop/manufacturing experience, along with experience working with incoming material, technical gauges, paint and blue print reading*

Job Responsibilities:
  • Inspects a variety of products to ensure requirements are met.
  • Reads and interprets technical specifications and drawings.
  • Utilizes hand tools and testing equipment to measure product characteristics.
  • Documents product acceptance or rejection in the ERP system.
  • Locates and pulls parts from storage for inspection or reinspection.
  • Creates Nonconforming Material Reports and Quality Notifications for rejected product.
  • Interfaces with the Supply Chain organization on rejected parts through email and phone.
  • Works with Engineering on potential Engineering Change Orders.
  • Creates and tracks Machine Shop Work orders for product rework.
  • Inspects and writes MRB (5003) notifications to be reworked by Bell and Howell Machine Shop.
  • Returns parts to vendors that are out of specification; discusses drawings and specifications of parts with vendors.
  • Assists in the Machine Shop with quality checks
  • Inspects stock for accuracy when nonconforming parts are found during production.
  • Conducts monthly scrap reports.
Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

Competencies (Skills, Knowledge and Abilities):
  • Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions along with considering alternative and diverse perspectives.
  • Ability to understand and interpret drawings, technical documents, and manuals.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, quantitative, and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand, remember and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work as an integral part of a team.
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 5 years of experience in mechanical inspection required.
Travel:
  • This position does not require travel.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
  • Ability to type on a keyboard.
  • Ability to hear and talk.
  • Ability to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Requires close vision for computer work and reviewing correspondence.
