Grain & Gin Handling Distillery Operator

We are seeking a fulltime Grain & Gin Handling Distillery Operator to join our MGP team in Lawrenceburg, IN. Scheduled hours are from 2:00 pm-10:00 pm, requires flexibility to move to first shift. Weekends are also required.

What will you do?

Major Accountabilities

  • Operating equipment within established limitations.
  • Remain current on all company required training via on the job training, trainingmine, and other required training methods.
  • Conducting in-plant testing on production samples to verify product is within established specification.
  • Take corrective actions if products are found out of specification.
  • Meet sanitation requirements for assigned area.
  • Meet lubrication requirements for assigned equipment.
  • Have a working knowledge of the MSDS program.
  • Use logbooks for recording operational changes and recording operational problems to communicate between shifts and conveying information between operators and managers.
  • Handle hazardous chemicals such as alcohol, caustic, acids, etc.
  • Climb and work in high places and/or from ladders, roof, etc.
  • Attend required safety meetings.
  • Participation as needed in regulatory audits, BRC, SEMS, Safety up, etc.
  • Subjected to temperature extremes due to plant processes.
Grain Unloading
  • Receive all grain raw material at the plant (Rye, Wheat, Corn, Malt, Specialty grains.
    • Proper bin placement of all incoming grains per the weekly trucking receiving schedule and daily directives.
  • Preform plant specific acceptance testing and collect retain samples of incoming ingredients.
    • Complete state certified grain grading course.
  • Log/file all inbound paperwork for raw material tracking purposes.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and assist in any repair needs of the gain handing transfer systems (bourbon pit and corn transfer).
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and assist in any repair needs of all dust collection systems.
    • Record required EPA documentation.
  • Empty out dust collectors into disposal hoppers.
  • Sanitation requirements:
    • Daily sanitation checklist.
    • Daily cleaning of the grain system magnets.
    • Ensure all necessary materials are stocked up and ready for next day use (IE. Wirlpack bags, sample jars, etc).
    • Clean up the grain sample room nightly.
  • Required to operator forklift, tracmobile, golf cart, sweeper, and grain handling system.
    • Daily equipment inspections/logs.
    • Daily storage/retrieval of equipment.
DDG Loading
  • Load DDG trucks and rail cars.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and assist in any repair needs of Dust collection systems.
    • Record daily inspections.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and assist in any repair needs of DDG inventories, scale systems, and record inventories into SAP.
  • Required to operator forklift, tracmobile, golf cart, sweeper, and DDG handling system.
    • Daily equipment inspections/logs.
  • Sanitation requirements.
    • Daily sanitation checklist.
Gin Ingredients:
  • Receive and manage gin ingredients raw material inventory when applicable.
    • Unload and receive in other plant processing aids (enzyme, box yeast, citric acid, Black Tea, Foamblast, etc).
  • Assemble gin charges and create MGP lot numbers.
  • Maintain required minimum charge inventory levels in G cooler set by management.
    • Assure charges are brought up and minimum inventory levels in the 4th floor cooler are staged in production processing areas.
  • Manage and recycle Gin charge boxes.
  • Preform required inventory cycle counts.
  • Manage Gin lot and physical inventory monthly (internal and customer owned).
  • Required to operator forklift, tracmobile, golf cart, and Gin scales and grinder system.
    • Daily equipment inspections/logs.
    • Daily storage/retrieval of equipment.
  • Sanitation requirements.
    • Daily sanitation checklist.
  • Other duties as assigned, included but not limited to:
    • Required to flex to day shift to cover vacation vacancies (as needed).
    • Wheat bran unload.
    • Open position coverage.
    • Shift work as needed.
Physical Requirements
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. to shoulder height occasionally.
  • Physical mobility: extensive walking, climbing, stairs, kneeling, stooping, sitting throughout entire shift.
  • Standing occasionally for long periods, up to 6 hours.
  • Physical dexterity: Use of phone, fax, computer, and mechanical tools that require precision (cutting, wrenches, etc.).
  • Occasional Driving.
  • Sensory requirements: hearing, listening, smelling, touching, speaking, tasting, seeing, distinguishing colors throughout the entire shift.
  • Stationary working at a computer terminal or keyboard up to 6 hours per day.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to endure exposure to high heat and cold throughout entire shift.
What do you need to bring to the table?
  • Ability to operate multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to work under pressure of deadlines.
  • Able to interpret and follow written and verbal instructions. Operators are required to maintain manual and automated records and must be able to communicate over a radio.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment. Perform routine maintenance as needed. Perform preventive maintenance as scheduled.
  • Wear personal protective equipment as required, fall protection, etc.
    • Optional PPE, full-face respirators.
