ResponsibilitiesJOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE
The Paramedic is a CHI Saint Joseph Health professional whose primary focus is to provide emergency medicalcare for patients accessing the emergency department. The individual will utilize a comprehensive care teamapproach in collaboration with RN’s, physicians, and ancillary staff.
ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. While working under physician medical oversight, the Paramedic will assure quality of care byfollowing the scope of practice provided by the National EMS Scope of Practice Model and furtheroutlined by the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services. In addition, the individual is to aligntheir role within functions set forth by CHI Saint Joseph Health.2. Administers BLS, PALS, ACLS and critical care interventions following the orders and supervision of theattending physician.3. Performs triage, assessments, interventions and patient education as needed.4. Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records in a timely manner.5. Promotes patient’s independence by establishing personal rapport and care goals; teaching patients,friends and family to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions.6. Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support.7. Clearly identifies self as a licensed paramedic while operating.8. Protects patients and employees by adhering to all CHI Saint Joseph Health policies, protocols,procedures and regulations.9. Willing to pursue new levels contributing to professional growth and development.10. Other duties as assigned.

QualificationsRequired Education and Experience: High school Diploma or equivalent. Graduate from anationally/state approved accrediting paramedic program.
Required Licensure and Certifications:
Unrestricted Kentucky Paramedic License. Active BLS, ACLS, PALS American Heart AssociationCertifications. During the Paramedic’s orientation period, theindividual will be required to successfully complete anapproved Critical Care endorsement course tomaintain employment.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills,Abilities and Training:
Demonstrated computer management skills. Considerable knowledge of computer applications. Must be able to communicate effectively in bothverbal and written formats. Ability to break down problems or tasks; scanningone’s own knowledge and experience to identifycauses and consequences of event. Maintains confidentiality and protects sensitive dataat all times. Adheres to organizational and department specificsafety standards and guidelines. 2 years of experience as a paramedic in a high volumepatient care services, approved Critical Careendorsement, previous aeromedical, or clinical ERexperience.
