Job Description:

The following statements are intended to describe the major elements and requirements of the position and should not be taken as an all-inclusive list of responsibilities, duties and skills, required of an individual assigned to this job. Performs Diagnostic Radiographic Procedures according to department protocols, JCAHO, CMS, State and Federal Regulations. Functions as the first line interface with customers and is successful in the accomplishment of their imaging needs. Participates in PI/QC activities. Responsible for processing and transmission of Images to PACS.

Responsibilities:
  • Delivery of quality patient care
  • Positions patients and sets technical factors for all diagnostic procedures. Sets high personal standards for image quality.
  • Follows department exam protocols.
  • Completes all ordered exams as per department protocol- documents why exam is not completed per protocol.
  • Modifies patient protocols relative to the patient, physical and cognitive abilities.
  • Ensures all exams are accurately labeled with patient ID, date, technologist ID and time of exam.
  • Covers patients during transportation and while performing procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with JCAHO /CMS, State and Federal regulations.
  • Maintains medical and surgical aseptic procedures. Practices good infection control techniques, can fully explain universal precaution principle.
  • Able to assess pain interfering with imaging procedure- makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
  • Has understanding and participates in PI process.
  • All QC is done at required intervals and appropriately logged service calls are placed if QC is out of controls. Note left for supervisor.
  • Consistently maintains neat & clean workplace appropriate to hospital standards.
  • Able to assist Radiologist with therapeutic procedures by having all supplies and techniques ready.
  • Sets technical factors accurately to minimize patient dose.
  • Utilizes Radiations Safety Techniques while performing radiographic procedures and properly shields patients when appropriate.
  • Follows all radiation safety standards for patients, employees & family members. Consistently determines pregnancy status of women of child bearing age (as defined as age 10-60), before performing exam.
  • Wears radiation badge as per protocol.
  • Uses personal protective equipment appropriately and regularly.
  • Informs and educates patients and families regarding procedure to be performed.
  • Ascertains patient understanding of process
  • Checks patients' identification before exams by at least two methods.
  • Reduces risk of health care acquired infections through proper hand washing and equipment disinfecting.
  • Follows hospital policies to reduce risk of wrong-site, wrong patient, and wrong procedure occurrences.
  • Documents all medication reactions/infiltrations on appropriate form.
  • Works to improve effectiveness of communication among caregivers.
  • Communicates and documents patient's condition/history for Radiologist
  • Sends all applicable results of prior examinations including telerad examinations
  • Calls all abnormal results that are given verbally read back to ensure accuracy
  • Demonstrates safe/ careful use of all equipment.
  • Reports all equipment malfunctions and call for service immediately using department protocol.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements

Education And Experience:
  • Graduate of a JRCERT accredited program of Radiologic Technology
  • Must have current state and ARRT license and CPR certification
  • Must be familiar with State and Federal regulations as well as The Joint Commission standard
  • Registered in Mammography
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Attends scheduled in-service and mandatory in-service. Communicates ideas to supervisor for a safer layout of equipment, tools, and/or processes.
  • Follows standard precautions and transmission-based precautions as shown by consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Adheres to procedures for the disposal of waste - household waste and biohazard waste as well as the proper disposal of sharps.
  • Uses proper body mechanics at all times. Seeks assistance when necessary to move heavy objects or to transport/transfer a heavy patient.
  • Is knowledgeable in the hospital safety program and takes necessary steps to maintain a safe environment. Adheres to safe work practices in order to prevent injuries and illnesses.
  • Is familiar with emergency codes and emergency preparedness procedures and understands his/her role in response to each of the emergency codes (Code Blue, Code Pink, Code Red, Code Yellow, Code Gray, Code Silver, Code Violet and Code Green, etc.)
  • Maintains the department in a neat, clean, and orderly manner, especially in own work area.
  • Eliminates or assists in eliminating any seen or known hazards in the workplace. Reports any unsafe conditions to his or her immediate supervisor.
  • Demonstrates good safety habits and judgment by maintaining a safe environment at all times.
  • Complies with all hospital safety and injury prevention policies and regulations (seven Environment of Care plans and hospital safety policies and procedures).
  • Understands the Continuous Quality Improvement Process and applies it in performing everyday tasks/duties. Active participant in Continuous Quality Improvement program by assisting in finding new and better ways of performing duties and responsibilities.
