POSITION SUMMARY: The ED Clinical Nurse Supervisor will work directly with the unit director in development of the nursing staff including education, department competencies, evaluation, performance correction, patient safety, and customer service related issues. The Clinical Supervisor will assist nursing staff in reaching their full potential at each stage of their professional development. The focus will be on developing and enhancing clinical knowledge, technical skills, clinical decision making skills, professional performance standards and inter-personal skills that nursing staff use to provide quality services.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1.Current and valid RN License, BSN Preferred.
2.Minimum of three years as a staff nurse in an acute care hospital setting; or ICU setting preferred.
3.BLS, ACLS, NIHSS on hire and maintain current.
4.Training on Violence in the Workplace prevention within 6 months of hire.
5.Critical Care course preferred.
6.TNCC within 12 months of hire.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Consistently completes as accurate initial assessments on new patients, in a timely manner.
2.Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain and proper documentation on the patient record.
3.Monitors hemodynamic/cardiac status of patient and correctly interprets the results. Reports to the physician any abnormal results.
4.Accurately reviews / implements new orders and keeps physician informed of patient's status in a timely manner. Consistently follows telephone orders / read back policy. Does not use unacceptable abbreviations.
5.Initiates discharge and patient / family education planning with proper documentation on the patient record.
6.Consistently uses two patient identifiers when drawing lab, administering medications, blood components and performing procedures.
7.Ensures Crash Cart, defibrillation function have been checked per protocol and after each code, appropriate items are immediately replaced and indicated by signature on crash cart checklist.
8.Is in compliance with information contained in the Infection Manual (i.e. OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards, CDC Guidelines), and demonstrates appropriate use of personal protective equipment (i.e. gloves, gowns, masks, goggles) and hand washing techniques.
9.Avoids and prevents injury to self and patients by applying the principles of body mechanics. Maintains a safe environment, functioning with an awareness and application of safety issues identified within the unit/facility.
10.Accurately documents medications given to the patient on the MAR.
11.Foster positive interpersonal relation with co-workers and members of other departments.
12.Ensures that patients, families, physicians and other employees are treated with courtesy and respect.
13.Assess, organize and coordinates patient care activities based on age appropriate interventions.
14.Appropriately delegates patient care activities.
15.Supervises other members of the Patient Care Team.
16.Demonstrates the ability to direct patient care in order to ensure timely assessment, treatment and discharge or transfer of patients in the ED. Demonstrates effective problem solving skills in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
17.Monitors staff resources to reflect the needs of the ED.
18.Demonstrates empathy and respect for patients by explaining all procedures, providing privacy and allowing patients to express emotional needs.
19.Demonstrates an awareness and understanding of the hospital continuous quality program including Core Measures as appropriate to the ED.
20.Assumes leadership responsibility, supervises and evaluates co-workers work performance, assists in orienting new personnel, and assures that nursing care is carried out in accordance with departmental standards and physician orders.
21.Maintains regular attendance.
22.Performs other duties as assigned or required.
