POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Clinical Operations Supervisor is a Registered Nurse who holds administrative oversight for the management of all healthcare services during their designated shift. This role involves traversing the facility to oversee hospital functions and make necessary adjustments as required. The supervisor directly oversees and engages with all personnel across the organization. They may also provide direct patient care within their professional scope. Continuous evaluation of the care delivered within the healthcare setting is essential.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING
- Active and valid RN License in the State of Texas; BSN is preferred.
- Completion of workplace violence prevention training within six months of employment.
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications upon hire and must remain current.
- A minimum of two years of experience in acute care, critical care, or emergency nursing is required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Completes the Clinical Operations Supervisor report at the end of each shift, documenting daily codes, Rapid Response Team activations, deaths, and restraints in the appropriate performance improvement folders.
- Ensures adequate staffing for the upcoming shift based on staffing trends, patient acuity, and recommendations from the unit's charge nurse.
- Exhibits knowledge of staffing trends and patient acuity systems to ensure appropriate staffing levels; reviews schedules and makes adjustments as necessary to meet defined patient needs.
- Facilitates effective communication and coordination among medical staff, ancillary staff, nursing administration, and nursing personnel.
- Assists with the onboarding and orientation of contract staff.
- Independently identifies and executes disciplinary actions regarding unusual occurrences involving employees. Provides feedback to fellow Clinical Operations Supervisors regarding performance concerns and formulates action plans as needed.
- Appropriately informs administrative personnel of events, issues, and needs within the healthcare facility. Works towards enhancing services within the organization.
- Encourages the implementation of hospital policies, procedures, and administrative decisions.
- Assists in coordinating and integrating services within their department and across other departments.
- Supports staff in identifying and reporting medication errors and adverse drug reactions in accordance with hospital policy.
- Supervises staff to ensure that patients, families, visitors, physicians, and colleagues are treated with courtesy and respect.
- Demonstrates accountability for the performance of tasks assigned to employees under their direct supervision.
- Responsible for any adverse events or consequences resulting from their independent judgment when assigning staff and evaluating patient care outcomes.
- Effectively assigns, delegates, and supervises patient care activities using independent judgment to assess the qualifications and competencies of staff members and the individual needs of patients and families.
- Mentors staff by demonstrating empathy and respect for patients, ensuring that all procedures are explained, privacy is maintained, and patients can express their emotional needs.
- Promotes awareness and understanding of the hospital's continuous quality improvement program, including Core Measures, ensuring staff adherence to standardized procedures.
- Exhibits conflict resolution skills when addressing issues with employees and/or patients.
- Participates in the interview process and provides recommendations for hiring to the Chief Nursing Officer for open positions.
- Monitors attendance and timekeeping for both licensed and unlicensed personnel.
- Takes on leadership responsibilities by assisting with educational opportunities and addressing items requiring corrective actions.
- Performs additional management duties requiring independent judgment as assigned by the Chief Nursing Officer.
- Completes other duties as assigned or required.
