Description

Position Summary - Under the direction of the Sr. Director of Information Technology & Security, the Infrastructure Engineer will oversee the Technology Services Department and Staff in their work to assist NJII's technology service needs as it supports service lines and organizational divisions. As the Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud and on-prem infrastructure to ensure the scalability, security, and reliability of our systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and optimize cloud-based solutions, leveraging your expertise in cloud technologies and systems administration.

Person Reports To - Sr. Director of Information Technology & Security

Essential Functions -

Hybrid Infrastructure Management:
  • Design, deploy, and maintain both cloud-based and on-premises infrastructure solutions.
  • Ensure seamless integration and interoperability between cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Implement best practices for scalability, performance, and reliability across hybrid infrastructure.
  • Manage procurement, testing, installation, and support of network equipment and systems (LAN, DMZ, WAN, routers, switches, Access Points, WLAN Controllers).
  • Deep understanding and configuration skills for network systems and protocols (e.g., SMTP, SNMP, DNS, NTP, FTP, TCP/IP, NFS).
  • Expertise in Azure cloud infrastructure and services (e.g., Azure Web Apps, Virtual WAN, Firewalls, VNets) and Microsoft 365 ecosystem (e.g., Intune, Azure AD).
Cloud Platform Management:
  • Manage cloud resources and services on platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Implement and optimize cloud-based solutions for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and security.
  • Monitor cloud infrastructure performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability of services.
On-Premises Infrastructure Management:
  • Administer and maintain physical and virtual servers, storage, and networking equipment.
  • Configure and optimize on-premises systems for performance, reliability, and security.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, backups, and upgrades as needed.
Automation and Orchestration:
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools to streamline deployment, provisioning, and management of both cloud and on-premises resources.
  • Implement infrastructure as code (IaC) practices using tools.
Performance Monitoring and Optimization:
  • Monitor the performance of hybrid infrastructure components and identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Implement performance tuning measures to improve scalability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of systems.
Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and provide technical solutions that meet business needs.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to gather requirements, provide updates, and address issues related to hybrid infrastructure.
Additional Functions -

Technical Support and Incident Response:
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance for issues related to hybrid infrastructure, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Participate in incident response activities and contribute to post-incident reviews to identify root causes and prevent future occurrences.
  • Define improvements for system security/integrity and respond to regulatory compliance needs (e.g., HIPAA, CIS, NIST).
  • Lead cloud recommendations and security readiness; implement, manage and secure cloud systems with NJII technical team.
Prerequisite Qualifications -
  1. Education/Degree Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  1. Years of Experience Required
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Infrastructure Engineer, with a focus on both cloud and on-premises environments.
  1. Knowledge/Skills Required
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts and technologies, as well as traditional on-premises infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and security principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.


Preferred Qualifications -
  • Engineer Level expertise in managing Office 365 Environment
  • Engineer Level expertise in Cloud Engineering (Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services)
  • Engineer Level expertise in Microsoft Server and Linux operating system
  • Engineer Level expertise in Network architecting and implementation
  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, or Google Cloud Certified Professional Cloud Architect.
