Status: Part-time approximately 20-40 hours per week, depends on needs of the business and candidate availability.

Salary: Hourly; depends on school credits and qualifications.
Location: Maricopa Association of Governments, downtown Phoenix, Arizona. This position is "in person" and all employees must reside in the MAG Planning area. ONLY LOCAL CANDIDATES WILL BE CONSIDERED.

The Position
The Maricopa Association of Governments is seeking a qualified team-oriented student from Transportation Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Urban Planning, Geography or related fields for a paid internship.

Undergraduate students in their third or fourth year as well as graduate students are encouraged to apply. All applicants with relevant experience or coursework will be considered.

This position will support the Transportation Data Program. The primary duties of the internship will include transportation data processing and analysis, statistical analysis, development of software code, work with various databases, spreadsheets and related applications, assisting in the preparation of documentation and administrative duties.

The Candidate:
The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, able to work independently, handle multiple tasks, and detail oriented. The candidate will have a working knowledge of transportation engineering, statistics, MS Windows, MS Office Suite, and have a desire to learn about other technologies required, excellent written and oral communication skills as well as organizational skills. Knowledge of development languages such as Python, R, Java, and/or statistical packages/languages is desirable

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • A background or field of study and experience working with TransCAD, TransModeler, ESRI GIS will be a plus.
  • High school diploma.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Enrollment in a college or university or have a degree.
