A Non-Chapter 21 contract will be issued for this position

PRIMARY PURPOSE: To provide speech and language services and appropriate intervention services to eligible students under the direction of a licensed supervisor. To maintain speech and language special education records and documentation as directed by licensed supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university (or Bachelor's degree plus courses required to obtain the SLP-Assistant License)
  • Valid Texas license as a speech-language therapy assistant granted by the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Bilingual proficiency as defined by Irving ISD requirements for Supplemental Duty and Pay, preferred
  • Knowledge of habilitation and rehabilitation of speech, language, and hearing disorders
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel to multiple work locations as assigned
Minimum Experience:

Minimum of 50 hours of observation and direct clinical service as directed by the Assistant's License requirements

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Program Management:
  1. Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech/language goals contained in the Individual Education Plans (IEPs) under the direction of the licensed supervisor.
  2. Participate in annual Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meetings if approved by the licensed supervisor and requirements set forth in the licensing board have been met.
  3. Provide consultation and direct intervention services under the direction of SLP supervisor.
  4. Participate in determining student progress and readiness for termination of therapy services under the direction of an SLP Supervisor.
  5. Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom based activities to improve oral and written language skills of students under the direction of the licensed supervisor.
  6. Attend speech therapy meetings as directed.
  7. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records and other documents required.
  8. Administer routine tests as directed by the licensed supervisor when the supervisor has assured proper training and administration of such tests.
  9. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules and Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain professionalism with all staff. Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
