Job Overview:

AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a qualified Dietitian to provide expert nutritional care and counseling to pediatric outpatients at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP). The Dietitian will act as a liaison between the Nutrition Management Department and patients, evaluate nutritional needs, develop individualized dietary plans, and serve as a consultant to the healthcare team. The role also involves participation in educational programs, research, and clinical studies to advance pediatric nutritional care.

General Duties:

Clinical Privileges: Provide services within the scope of clinical privileges granted by the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) Director.

Contractual Obligations: Perform tasks as per the basic contract and outlined duties.

Specific Duties:

Patient Liaison (Task 22.1): Act as a liaison between the Nutrition Management Department and pediatric patients to ensure effective communication and care coordination.

Record Maintenance (Task 22.2): Maintain required records, reports, and statistics in line with MTF standard operating procedures. Assist in implementing and evaluating Nutrition Management Department functions.

Nutritional Assessment (Task 22.3): Collect and analyze nutritionally relevant data, including medication, clinical symptoms, lab values, and dietary history, for pediatric patients. Complete nutritional assessments, particularly for patients not at risk.

Dietary Analysis (Task 22.4): Calculate nutrient and energy intake values and assist in evaluating dietary history data for pediatric patients.

Pediatric Specialist (Task 22.5): Provide specialized counseling for pediatric outpatients with conditions requiring nutritional management, impacting their nutritional status.

Assessment Techniques (Task 22.6): Assist in developing assessment techniques and education protocols for pediatric outpatients with complex nutritional or psychosocial issues.

Professional Education (Task 22.7): Educate medical residents, interns, allied health professionals, dietetic students, and entry-level dietitians on pediatric nutritional management and diet counseling.

Multidisciplinary Team (Task 22.8): Serve on multidisciplinary treatment teams, collaborating with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other allied health members.

Care Planning (Task 22.9): Review medical records and consult with team members to plan and implement nutritional care compatible with overall treatment plans.

Complex Care (Task 22.10): Provide diet counseling and nutrition care services for pediatric outpatients with complex dietary management needs.

Patient Compliance (Task 22.11): Develop unique approaches to ensure compliance with dietary plans, particularly for patients outside a controlled medical environment.

Diet Histories (Task 22.12): Conduct in-depth diet histories with patients or caregivers to understand food habits, preferences, cultural background, and other factors impacting nutritional care.

Data Evaluation (Task 22.13): Evaluate anthropometric data, lab parameters, drug-nutrient interactions, and dietary needs from patient records.

Dietary Planning (Task 22.14): Develop individualized dietary plans based on an understanding of disease etiology, nutrient metabolism, and patient nutritional status.

Dietary Implementation (Task 22.15): Implement appropriate dietary regimes in consultation with referring physicians or nurse practitioners.

Diet Prescription Adjustment (Task 22.16): Modify diet prescriptions as needed, in consultation with physicians.

Documentation (Task 22.17): Record the results of nutritional assessments, diet counseling, and follow-up visits in the patient's medical record.

Patient Education Coordination (Task 22.18): Coordinate pediatric dietetic patient education activities, including revising and developing diet instruction materials.

Educational Programs (Task 22.19): Participate in educational programs, seminars, and workshops related to pediatric nutrition, such as those for Asthma/Allergy or Cystic Fibrosis.

Consultation (Task 22.20): Provide expertise and consultation to other dietitians and healthcare team members regarding pediatric diet counseling and nutritional management.

Research Participation (Task 22.21): Engage in applied nutritional research and clinical studies, including data collection and material preparation for publication.

Outcome Monitoring (Task 22.23): Systematically monitor practice effectiveness through client database evaluations and outcome analysis, making recommendations for improvements as needed.

Laboratory Data Interpretation (Task 22.24): Assess nutritional status through interpretation of laboratory data.

Diet Evaluation (Task 22.25): Evaluate diet history, 24-hour recalls, and food frequency data to inform care plans.

Diet Modification (Task 22.26): Adjust dietary plans considering various nutritional factors, such as fiber, calorie content, and specific macronutrients.

Alternate Plans (Task 22.27): Provide alternative dietary plans for food allergies, intolerances, or preferences like vegetarianism.

Qualifications:

Degree: Bachelor's or Master's in Dietetics or Nutrition from an accredited program.

Certification: Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) certified by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in pediatric nutrition, preferably in an outpatient setting.

Licensure: Active, current, and unrestricted license to practice dietetics in any U.S. state, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.

Skills and Abilities:

Strong knowledge of pediatric nutrition and dietary needs.

Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.

Excellent communication skills for patient counseling and healthcare professional education.

Competence in evaluating and modifying dietary plans to meet complex nutritional needs.
