Distribution Engineering Design Assistant

Job Description:

  • Seeking an Engineering Design Assistant to join FL team. This person will support power distribution projects for the Duke Energy Clearwater Operations Center.

  • Will receive work orders from Duke’s call center. The work orders will consist of residential construction requests, which may impact distribution lines.

  • Review the work order, research the property and information, then follow up with the customer.

  • Will further investigate the need of the customer, research additional information, and perform field site visits (copy of site plans, square footage of livable space, field measurements, field photos, etc.).

  • Once they have the information needed, they approve or reject the work order.

  • May also support Engineers/Designers with additional duties, such is site surveys, estimating, design and construction administration.

  • The typical customers for this department are individual residential landowners. The most common customer need is pool construction that will impact distribution lines. Other types of projects include new power run to the property, relocating equipment, lighting, converting overhead to underground, relocating overhead lines, etc.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering

  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Experience interacting with customers.

  • Good written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate frequently with customers.

  • Experience in or ability to quickly learn a technical industry (power utility)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in the electric utility industry, with working knowledge of primary and secondary distribution systems, utility standards, ability to use design software packages, and general construction knowledge and aptitude.

  • Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.

  • Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations.

  • Knowledge of BOUD/Maximo.
