Definition of Class

This position performs duties to identify and recruit prospective students. The incumbent plans and participates in the implementation and recruitment of prospective students using marketing strategies and public relations skills, and counsels prospective students and parents regarding the admission process.

The Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence (CME) seeks a dynamic, creative individual to serve as the Admissions Counselor and recruit prospective, diverse undergraduate students. The incumbent ensures the success of the CME and the University by supporting the unit's marketing, recruitment, enrollment, and evaluation strategies and initiatives. The ideal candidate demonstrates effective leadership, communication, collaboration, decision-making, and teamwork skills in managing initiatives for the CME, and cooperatively with other stakeholders at the University. The Admissions Counselor position requires judgment and discretion while efficiently and accurately processing prospective student data. The incumbent will represent the CME/University at recruitment events and must demonstrate effective project and time management skills, give critical attention to detail, and oversee the development and production of marketing and promotional materials for the unit. This position reports to the Associate Director of External Operations.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Assists in the planning and implementation of admissions and recruitment strategies, including social media, websites, and content creation.
  • Develops programs and communication tools for the recruitment of prospective students
  • Represents the CME/University at various recruitment events to interpret state-mandated and institutional admissions requirements, provide financial information and guidelines, and give information regarding courses of study and other facets of the CME to prospective students, both traditional and non-traditional, and families, school counselors, and other officials.
  • Corresponds with prospective CME students, including applicants, families, alumni, school counselors, and others seeking information on admissions standards, academic and non-academic programs, and student activities.
  • Schedules and conducts presentations, personal visits, tours, and on-campus interviews for prospective students and their families, school counselors, career coaches, and others interested in CME admissions.
  • Creates and maintains prospect records in the campus recruiting management (CRM) system; prepares reports and analyzes data to coordinate recruiting efforts.
  • Assists in coordinating the application and selection process by ensuring admissions requirements and procedures are followed; remits correspondence for acceptance into the CME program.
  • When applicable, assists with the ambassador and tele-counseling programs.
  • Attends training programs and staff development meetings.
  • Maintains admissions records and prepares recruitment reports.
  • Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.


Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.
  1. Coordinates and participates in the implementation and recruitment strategies of prospective students.
  2. Counsels prospective students and parents regarding the CME admissions process and the University.
  3. Maintains admissions records and prepares recruitment reports.


Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university, conferred no later than the date of hire, or verified in writing by the respective Dean's Office or Registrar's Office that requirements have been met with certainty for the degree to be conferred.

AND

Experience:
Six (6) months of experience related to the above described duties.

AND

Licensure:
Must possess a valid driver's license.

Related education and related experience may be substituted on a basis set forth by the Department of Human Resources.
