Summary:

Job Summary: The behavioral health technician will perform various patient care activities and related non-professional services in caring for the personal needs and comforts of patients. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate patient care and is accountable to the policies and procedures of the organization.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrates ability to appropriately modify approach and procedures to meet needs of age/diversity of population served for the following age groups:

☒ Adult (18 years - 65 years)

☒ Geriatric (over 65 years)

    • Incorporates cultural considerations in the provisions of care.
    • Knowledge of growth and developmental stages.
    • Considers life changes/effects on health beliefs and behaviors.
    • Provides necessary safety measures.
    • Provides information and involves family/caregiver in decision making.
2. Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the Behavioral Health Department as defined in the scope of practice, to assure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed. This includes, but is not limited to, the age of the patient served.
    • Contributes to the assessment of the health status of individuals including interactions of individuals with family members or group members by:
    • Collecting basic subjective and objective data from observations at interviews. The data to be collected identified by the RN and/or LPN
    • Reporting and recording the collected data.
    • Identifies basic signs and symptoms of deviations from normal health status and provides basic information which licensed nurse's use in identification of problems and needs.
    • Contributes to the development of the plan of care for individuals by reporting basic data.
    • Participates in the giving of direct care by:
    • Assisting with ADLs, personal cares, and encouraging self-care.
    • Providing comfort measures and emotional support to client/patients whose condition is stable and/or predictable.
    • Assisting with basic maintenance and restorative nursing
    • Providing a safe and healthy environment.
    • Documenting and communicating completion of assigned/delegated activities and client/patient responses.
    • Seeking guidance and direction when appropriate.
    • Providing appropriate nutritional support as directed.
    • Performs technical aspects of patient care according to established policies and procedures.
    • Contributes to the evaluation of patient's progress/plan of care:
    • Documents and communicate client/patient responses.
    • Assist with collection of data
    • Is aware of and can demonstrate the use of effective communication and de-escalation techniques with patients.
    • Demonstrates the ability to apply restraints/seclusion when directed by a RN and follows policy and procedure.
    • Assists in planning leisure activities/ADL groups appropriate for patients on the unit and documents any pertinent information from these activities.
    • Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient environment, advocating the least restrictive environment for patients by sharing information gathered with team members.
    • Advocates for patient's needs through communication and the interdisciplinary planning process and to appropriate team members.
    • Works to maintain positive team relationships with co-workers, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team.
    • Demonstrates the ability to problem solve and offer solutions.
    • Participates in the implementation of change in the workplace.
    • Acts as a positive role model to others.


Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, to include after-hours and weekends as necessary.

The requirements listed below must be representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION:

GED or High School Diploma preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained within one full month from date of hire required.

Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) obtained within six full months from date of hire required.

EXPERIENCE:

Previous clinical experience preferred.

Previous healthcare experience preferred.

SKILLS:

Language Skills - Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language required.

Other Certifications/Requirements:

Must be 19 years of age to apply.
