Description

Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) is a not-for-profit community development organization and settlement house serving 11,000 residents a year through a comprehensive array of housing preservation, economic development, community organizing and youth and family support services programs and projects. Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation has an opening for one (1) full-time Temporary (April 2024-June 2024) Intake Worker in the Community Development Division/Community Advocates Team

Principal Duties:
  • Answer a high volume of calls about public benefits, schedule appointments, explain documents needed, delegate questions to team members as needed and make reminder phone calls and send text messages,
  • Greet and screen walk-ins and schedule appointments
  • Screen residents for public benefits using screening tools and intake form,
  • Assist residents in uploading documents to public portals,
  • Enter data in our database, benefits referral sheet and team calendar,
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information and data,
  • Scan and file forms. Shred documents after they are scanned,
  • Participate in collaborative meetings, outreach events and supervision,
  • Demonstrate commitment to advancing racial equity and community leadership, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
  • Bilingual - English/Spanish or English/Bangla
  • Personal or professional experience with applying for public benefits applications or human services preferred
  • Comfortable with computer applications such Access HRA, MS Office Suite and Google or ability to learn programs quickly
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal,
  • Compassionate listener
  • Willingness, ability and sensitivity required to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently but also collaborate in a team
  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • Willingness to work at two evenings and 1 Saturday a month or as needed
Work Environment:
  • This position works in an office setting during the workday. This role routinely uses standard equipment such as computers, cellphones, photocopiers, and standard equipment such as scissors and tape dispensers.
Physical Demands:
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Travel:
  • Local travel only and only occasionally.
Supervision:
  • Reports directly to the Crystal Dixon, NYC Benefits Coordinator/Program Supervisor
Compensation:
  • $30.00 per hour, 35 hours a week ($2100 biweekly) for three months, April 2024-June 2024
