Job Summary

As a Community Intake Worker at Bowery Residents Committee, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals experiencing homelessness. Your primary responsibility will be to complete intakes and orientation of new and readmitted clients into our program. This involves screening clients for diversions, inputting client demographics into our internal database, and serving as a liaison between social services and operations. You will also be responsible for scheduling and tracking client assessments, medical and psychological assessments, and providing escort services as needed. Additionally, you will provide emergency first aid and CPR assistance when required.

Responsibilities

Complete intakes and orientation of new and readmitted clients into our program
Screen clients for diversions and input client demographics into our internal database
Serve as a liaison between social services and operations
Schedule and track client assessments, medical and psychological assessments

Requirements

High School diploma or GED required
Experience working with homeless population preferred
NYC Fire Safety Coordinator Certification a plus
Above average computer literacy required and good oral and written communications skills needed
Bilingual preferred
CPR training certification or willingness to take training class in CPR

Program Description

Bowery Residents Committee opened its first assessment center in August 2012, serving as a first point of contact for men entering the city shelter system. Our 200-bed dormitory-style residence is funded by the NYC Department of Homeless Services and provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals experiencing homelessness. We evaluate each individual who enters our program and link them to the housing and services that best meet their needs. In addition, we have dedicated one dorm to street homeless men of the Greenpoint community, an unprecedented commitment by the shelter system to provide a community-based strategy to respond to a significant local need.
