Overview
The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (LPA) is one of the top arts archives in the world. As such, it is responsible for the care of and access to unique collections integral to the work of scholars and creative professionals from around the globe. Located in New York's most iconic performing arts campus, LPA serves as a vital resource for artists, writers and students breaking new ground and creating the culture of tomorrow.

The Library Technical Assistant II supports public service to theater, dance, music & recorded sound, and the reserve film media collections of the research divisions of the Library for the Performing Arts. They provide access to paper-based materials (books, archival boxes, etc), microfilm, audio and moving image materials. In addition, as part of the Access Services group, they are responsible for projects around accessing material as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Provides public service to library patrons, including working with special collections
  • Fulfills reader requests and provides inventory control for research materials including:
    • Physical delivery and reshelving of items
    • Checking in and out items via the ILS catalog and inventory software
  • Assists in planning and implementing collection maintenance projects
  • Instructs patrons on the use of the internet, computer applications and other Library services
  • Fulfills electronic document delivery requests
  • Ensures patrons follow library policies and procedures
  • Operates the playback console, playback devices, and supporting equipment
  • Retrieves and reshelves media materials
  • Performs other related duties as required
Required Education, Experience & Skills

  • Successful completion of some college

  • Successfully demonstrated experience working with the public in high-pressure situations
  • Successfully demonstrated ability to perform work independently with speed and accuracy in an automated environment
  • Successfully demonstrated reliability and accuracy
