About the Role: We are collaborating with the founder of an innovative company to find their first VP of Engineering, with the goal of advancing this role to CTO. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President of Engineering to lead the architecture and customization of the technology stack required to deploy an electric vehicle charging network, serving as a precursor to the development of our cutting-edge software platform.

The first version of the platform will be designed to:

Manage customer charging and enhance the overall charging experience.

Support the introduction of algorithms for innovative and dynamic membership tiers and charging tariffs.

Collect data to enable personalisation and customisation, seamlessly integrating with the planned EV charging technology stack.

Subsequent development will focus on an energy storage, energy shifting, and energy management platform that will enable energy trading with the grid, supply to buildings, and time-of-day supply to EV-charging customers. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving the technical vision and building a robust, scalable, and data-driven platform. This role is pivotal in transforming our ambitious vision into reality, ensuring that our engineering endeavors not only meet but exceed industry standards and contribute to the UK’s sustainability goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop technical aspects of the company's strategy to ensure alignment with the company's vision and business goals.

Make executive decisions regarding the company’s technological needs and stack.

Communicate the company's technology strategy to partners, stakeholders, and investors.

Oversee the technology architecture of the business, ensuring it supports the company's priorities.

Develop and control annual IT operating and capital budgets, monitoring KPIs to assess technological performance.

Lead the development of a software platform providing real-time information on EV charging and energy savings.

Design and implement scalable API integrations with various systems and services.

Develop and oversee a high-performing engineering team, ensuring efficiency, motivation, and continuous knowledge progression.

Prepare and produce software releases in line with timelines and budget.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align the software platform with strategic goals.

Ensure effective data collection and usage to enhance user experience and operational efficiency.

Drive continuous improvement and innovation in software development practices.

Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets to align with strategic priorities.

Work closely with Commercial and Product teams to define and deliver new features and enhancements.

Demonstrated track record of leading successful engineering teams and projects. Strategic thinking and problem-solving aptitude. Energy / Renewable Energy industry experience.

Bonus Points:

Experience in the energy sector, specifically in renewable or electric vehicle charging. Familiarity with regulatory standards and compliance requirements in the energy sector.
