Michigan St. Indianapolis, 46222). The Senior Grants Accountant plays an integral role in the accounting department. This role ensures all grant and contract management is financially sound and in compliance with all necessary internal controls and external regulations. The Senior Grants Accountant assumes full responsibility for grant accounting and reporting and assists with budgeting and other general accounting functions as assigned. The Senior Grants Accountant plays a key role in new and ongoing continuous process improvement initiatives. This role is responsible for implementing new grant accounting and compliance as appropriate in accordance with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) requirements as outlined in the recently implemented Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (Super Circular). Example Duties and Activities Reviews grant and program contract proposals. Reads and reviews all grant agreements and determines appropriate accounting treatment. Prepares grant policies and procedures for GEI to ensure compliance with OMB and Uniform Grant Guidance (UGG) and all other applicable requirements and regulations. Assists with budgets and projections for grants and GEI program contracts. Prepares monthly accounting entries for grants. Maintains grant-related communication, specifically email accounts and calendars. Manages all grant and contract billing schedules and submission of claims. Prepares actual versus budget reports by department and by specific programs. Formulates financial reports to grantors where required. Provides timely reports and analyses to department leaders. Prepares and maintains schedules/reconciliations for monthly close. Works with Programmatic and Finance staff to develop project and grant proposal budgets, and educate staff on budget and financial planning. Meets all state, federal, and Indiana State Board of Accounts reporting requirements and deadlines. Reviews and reconciles various general ledger accounts as assigned. Assists the auditors in the completion of the annual financial audits and A-133 audits. Proposes process improvements surrounding financial controls of grants. Develops and optimizes accounting and related workflows to identify redundancies and create efficiencies. Learns and utilizes relevant accounting and reporting systems, including Microsoft Dynamics D365, Blackbaud’s Financial Edge, Coupa, SK Global Treasury Management Software, Workday, and Adaptive Insights. Obtains cross-training in the accounting department to understand roles and provide backup support. Maintains and cultivates collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders who represent the divisions of GCSI. Assists operational and support departments with projects as needed such as process and system automation, including the migration from Blackbaud to Microsoft Dynamics 365, Workday Expenses implementation, etc. Required Competencies Degree and Credential Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Industry Expertise - Works in an accounting department, in a nonprofit or public accounting environment. Knowledge of public schools and/or charter school grant accounting is ideal. Performs month-end closes, and reconciliations, and works with financial statements. Possesses a strong grasp of the interrelations of accounting transactions and financial statements. Possesses solid knowledge of banking and cash management processes. Develops budgets, tracks expenditures, and prepares financial reports. Has a thorough understanding of GAAP and A-133 audits. Experienced with government contracts and billing. Technical Knowledge - Mastery of advanced features of MS Office, especially Excel (image and table formatting, document change tracking, headers/footers/table of contents, lookup/pivot tables, etc.). Skilled at working with enterprise planning systems and adept at ensuring data quality or demonstrating the ability to learn required tools. Building Collaborative Relationships - Develops, maintains, and strengthens partnerships at all levels with others inside or outside the organization who can provide information, assistance, and support.
