Position Summary

Working under moderate supervision, this position performs simple to relatively complex analytical assignments and prepares accounting related financial statements and analysis reports as an Individual Contributor, sometimes working in small teams. Majority of the functions will be to assist the Accounting Manager of the accounting sub-process and senior level accounting professionals with the month and year-end close. This position will also support the company's efforts to comply with the requirements of Sarbanes Oxley. S/he is responsible for applying the rules and regulations of state and federal regulatory agencies and other certified agencies.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Reviews and/or prepares transactions for entry, posts entries upon approval, collects and evaluates data, conducts analysis, and prepares reports.
  • Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records. Reports inconsistencies to higher level associates.
  • Assists with the preparation of general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Assists in analyzing financial reports and records, making studies or recommendations relative to the recording of financial transactions.
  • Maintains records of routine accounting transactions.
  • Prepares schedules with supporting documentation to external auditors.
  • Responsible for comparing accounting system outputs with daily input verifying for accuracy and resolves discrepancies.
  • Assists in preparation of financial and operating reports including trial balances, adjustments and closing entries.
  • Interprets and communicates financial reports and results for managers.
  • Conducts or assists in the documentation/support of accounting projects of varying complexity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Excellent understanding of end to end transaction activities across Accounting processes
  • Knowledge of financial systems (e.g., General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Financial Reporting tools)
  • Understanding of taxation - income, sales & use tax
  • Knowledge of GAAP requirements
  • Knowledge of internal controls, compliance and auditing
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. Should be proficient in Accounting software

Education and/or Experience
  • 4-year college degree with a major in business, finance or accounting
  • CPA or MBA a plus
  • 3 - 5 years of related experience and/or training
  • Understanding and experience with bank reconciliation functions, posting journal entries, and month end processing are required.
  • Experience in the preparation of General Ledgers, Basic Knowledge of FASB requirements, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially in Excel; attention to detail; strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Great Plains software experience a plus
  • Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis and project management
  • Experience in the Healthcare industry preferred, but not required.


Other Qualifications

Strong knowledge of GAAP and strong internal controls. Maintains a professional demeanor and appearance. Is self-motivated and dependable. Must be high integrity, including maintenance of confidential information.

Certifications, Licenses and Registrations

Certified Public Accountant license preferred.

Other Skills and Abilities

Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English. Articulates and embraces hospice philosophy.
