In this position you will work in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative customer-focused environment to determine and translate customer needs into simple and effective design solutions. In this position, you will be working with an engineering project team in the development of an automation or parcel sortation system. You will be responsible for ensuring the design meets the customer requirements, is coordinated with other trades to minimize conflicts during installation, can be installed with efficiency, and maintain excellent communication with the site team. Success in this role involves the ability to balance the technical requirements of the role while also having the soft skills to collaborate with and motivate the engineering team. It also involves working closely with stakeholders from other disciplines and other departments to balance priorities, improve processes and satisfy a complex set of goals. Success will require strong technical skills, creativity, strong interpersonal skills, drive, and passion. A successfully candidate will demonstrate a keen intuition for when to attempt to solve problems on their own and when to enlist the help of other experienced leaders. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Job Duties and Responsibilities): Translate customer drawings and specifications into a fully functional mechanical system Optimize the functionality from as-sold to a working mechanical design within the budget in consultation with other disciplines (Controls, Supply Chain, Installation, etc.) 3D modeling of systems in conjunction with the Layout Engineers Engineering of non-standard mechanical interfaces Apply safety regulations and ergonomics Specify the mechanical equipment required, including both Vanderlande manufactured and third party purchased items Create an equipment manifest with respect to electrical and controls engineering requirements Calculate system component loads and translate reactive forces to the building structure Document all engineering decisions through design plans, complete and clear installation files, and engineering instructions directed to a site supervisor and installation subcontractor Support the installation and commissioning both on site, and from the Marietta office Project document control using a rights-based database system Perform spatial analysis of clearance envelopes, egress pathways and fork truck vehicular aisles REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering 5+ years of experience Proficient in AutoCAD 2D and 3D TRAVEL: Must be willing and able to travel domestically with occasional international opportunities up to 20%.
