Overview:

The POC Coordinator will provide technical oversight of Point of Care testing equipment (glucometers, analyzers, and other medical testing devices) and work with hospital personnel, providers, and Clinical Pathology in the validation, training, implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and execution of process improvement of authorized POCT. Develops and maintains a quality management system for POC equipment testing that assures quality and meets regulatory requirements. The POCC coordinates/participates in required method comparisons, instrument validations, linearity checks, end user training, and competency assessments. The POCC develops, writes, and revises policies and procedures in compliance with state, CAP, and DNV regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

Point of Care Testing
* Responsible for POCT data collection, monitoring, and reporting on an ongoing basis.

* Seeks out input from and interfaces with the Laboratory Medical Director regarding QI/QA/QC activities including establishment of QA Policies and records and writing IQCPs.

* Oversight and monitoring of proficiency testing, training of personnel and competency testing for all POCT personnel.

* Manages the oversight of Point of Care Testing for all POCT in the area.

* Demonstrates effective organization and sets appropriate priorities by completing assignments within prescribed timeframes.

* Maintains a safe, clean environment for all members of the health care team including collecting and disposing of specimens and other contaminated material according to established procedures with adherence to standards of infection control and blood/body fluid precautions and protective equipment when necessary.

* Effectively uses all computer equipment, programs, and instrument interfaces related to departmental operating functions.

* Contributes to 24/7 patient care by being available "on call" according to a pre-set schedule.

* Other duties as required for department operations.



Facilitation and Education
* Attends organizational meetings and serves on organizational committees as the laboratory representative related to job responsibilities, i.e., Quality Team, etc.

* Contributes to the effective communication needs of the department by providing timely and accurate communication in a positive manner.

* Assist or serve as department Safety officer for the lab.

* Proficient in on-going and new method calibration, validation/verification and multi-instrument comparison studies.

* Demonstrates and maintains commitment for self-growth and competency including completion of all mandatory education requirements according to hospital and department standards and state licensing standards.



Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.

Qualifications:

Education
* Bachelor's in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, microbiology, chemistry or biological science - Required


* Master's degree - Preferred


Certification & Licensures
* MT, or MLS certification from ASCP, AMT, HEW - Preferred

Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.


Experience
Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
