Position Overview:
The Clinical Point of Care Specialist will oversee the technical aspects of Point of Care testing equipment, including glucometers and analyzers. This role involves collaboration with healthcare personnel, medical providers, and Clinical Pathology to ensure the validation, training, implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and enhancement of authorized Point of Care Testing (POCT) processes. The specialist will develop and uphold a quality management system for POCT that guarantees compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:
Point of Care Testing Management
* Oversee the collection, monitoring, and reporting of POCT data continuously.
* Collaborate with the Laboratory Medical Director on Quality Improvement, Quality Assurance, and Quality Control activities, including the establishment of QA policies and documentation.
* Supervise proficiency testing and train personnel, ensuring competency assessments for all POCT staff.
* Manage the Point of Care Testing operations across the designated area.
* Exhibit strong organizational skills and prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
* Maintain a safe and hygienic environment for all healthcare team members, adhering to infection control protocols.
* Utilize computer systems and software related to departmental functions efficiently.
* Provide 24/7 patient care support by being available on-call as scheduled.
* Perform additional duties as required for departmental operations.

Facilitation and Education
* Participate in organizational meetings and serve on committees as the laboratory representative, such as the Quality Team.
* Ensure effective communication within the department by delivering timely and accurate information positively.
* Assist or take on the role of Safety Officer for the laboratory.
* Demonstrate proficiency in ongoing and new method calibration, validation, and multi-instrument comparison studies.
* Commit to personal growth and competency by completing all mandatory education requirements in line with hospital and departmental standards.

Compliance and Safety
* Report safety-related incidents promptly using the designated reporting tools; attend all safety training programs; and perform work safely while monitoring the work environment for potential safety issues.
* Stay informed and comply with relevant state and federal regulations, as well as company policies affecting the role.
* Ensure all required certifications and licenses are current and valid.
* Complete all mandatory training modules and job-specific education within the designated timeframe.

Qualifications:
Education:
* Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, microbiology, chemistry, or biological science is required.
* A Master’s degree is preferred.

Certification and Licensure:
* Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) from ASCP, AMT, or HEW is preferred.

Experience:
In the dynamic healthcare environment, proficiency in technology is essential for effective patient care. Candidates must possess a solid understanding of computer systems and demonstrate competence in using various software applications.
