Leads a team of engineers that identifies and delivers value for highly complex data-driven initiatives. Applies an intuitive and professional understanding of industry-relevant Data Science, Analytics and Machine Learning technology and frameworks to build innovative solutions demonstrating the latest advancements in cloud computing. Works closely in collaboration with other functional areas such as decision science, product design, and other enterprise teams and business partners. Plays a pivotal role within FedEx Dataworks, one that spans leading skilled, technical teams, setting standards, staying abreast of key technical innovations, crafting and driving our engineering strategy, defining and building the organization and facilitating the delivery of key business initiatives. Acts as a “universal translator” between IT, business, software engineers and data scientists, working hand-in-hand with these multi-disciplinary teams. Leads the creation of and alignment to technical standards for product engineering, including the selection and refinements of foundational technical components. Responsible for full-stack product engineering including data engineering, data ingestion, model operationalization, visualization, web applications, APIs, webhook, and other consumption patterns supporting internal, external and data science user groups. Although the primary responsibility for writing code lies with the team, this is nevertheless considered a “manager-doer” role, where familiarity with the details of the work and the tech stack will be essential. Deeply involved in code, design and architectural reviews and large-scale deployments. Takes the primary responsibility for the continued training and up-skilling of the team, as well as ensuring that the organization they leads is appropriately sized and skilled for the set of initiatives in flight and projects where such expertise is required. Understands in depth both the business and technical problems FedEx Dataworks strives to solve. Scaling up from “laptop-scale” to “cluster scale” problems, in terms of both infrastructure and problem structure and technique. Delivers tangible value very rapidly, collaborating with complementary teams of varying backgrounds and fields. Codifying best practices for future reuse in the form of accessible, reusable patterns, templates, and code bases. Develops a team of engineers, themselves spread across several simultaneous value-delivery and infrastructure building initiatives. Interacts with senior technologists from the broader enterprise and outside of FedEx (partner ecosystems and customers) to create room to collaborate and ensure smooth deployments to downstream operational systems. Supervises 3-8 employees. Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, a related quantitative field such as Engineering or Mathematics plus 4 years of experience in the job offered or 4 years of equivalent work experience in measurement and analysis, quantitative business problem solving, simulation development and/or predictive analytics. The employer will alternatively accept a Bachelor's degree or equivalent* in Computer Science, Information Systems, a related quantitative field such as Engineering or Mathematics plus 6 years of experience in the job offered or 6 years of equivalent work experience in measurement and analysis, quantitative business problem solving, simulation development and/or predictive analytics, in lieu of a Master's degree plus 4 years of experience. Experience must include the following: Extensive knowledge in product engineering and machine learning frameworks including design, development and implementation of highly complex systems and data pipelines. Extensive knowledge in Information Systems including design, development and implementation of large batch or online transaction-based systems. Strong understanding of the transportation industry, competitors, and evolving technologies. Experience providing leadership in a general planning or consulting setting. Experience as a leader or a senior member of multi-function project teams. Strong oral and written communication skills.
