Position Overview for the Patient Services Representative:

  • Patient Registration: Register patients for ambulatory or emergency care, collect necessary information for billing, and prepare registration packets.
  • Financial Screening: Conduct financial screenings to establish payment sources or determine placement on a sliding fee scale.
  • Data Entry & Reporting: Enter and retrieve patient information in computer systems, maintaining accurate records of admissions, discharges, and insurance eligibility.
  • Patient Inquiries: Respond to patient inquiries regarding health care services, billing procedures, and assist with directing them to appropriate medical service areas.

Required Skills for the Patient Services Representative:

  • Education & Experience: One year of office support experience involving direct patient contact in a medical setting.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology: Familiarity with policies and procedures related to medical patient services, insurance, and billing.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using standard office equipment, including personal computers, word processing software, and basic data processing principles.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate with patients and staff.
