The Director of Development is a senior leader of the growing Equal Rights Advocates (ERA) team who will manage ERA's Development team and lead Equal Rights Advocates' fundraising goals to meet its $4.3 million operating budget and substantially grow revenue over the next three years. The Director of Development, in close collaboration with the Executive Director, Board, and Development Team, leads the implementation of a comprehensive fundraising plan with aggressive goals for major gifts, planned giving, foundations, corporate giving, online giving, events, and ERA's 50th Anniversary in 2024. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Development is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and contributes to the organization's operational and strategic health and success. Job Responsibilities

Lead fundraising for Equal Rights Advocates, ensuring the organization raises $4.3 million through diversified funding streams and continuing annual growth plans.

  • Plan and implement ERA's major fundraising strategies including Annual Appeal, Major and Planned Giving Program, Annual Gala Fundraiser, online giving campaigns and other efforts.
  • Strategically leverage the Executive Director in key fundraising activities
  • Plan and implement annual virtual and/or 1000+ person fundraising gala
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Communications department to achieve fundraising goals
  • Lead robust institutional giving program and grant management
  • Lead and further develop the individual major donor giving program to meet annual and long-term growth goals
  • Lead corporate giving strategy, leveraging exciting recent opportunities
  • Grow presence into new markets by developing and implementing fundraising plans in key regions outside of California to support ERA's national programmatic work
  • Leverage analytics from donor data to strategically respond to paradigm shifts and lead the fundraising response
  • Provide board development support, liaising with board members to develop strategic give-get plans and overall development strategy
  • Build, lead, manage, and coach a team to meet or exceed all fundraising targets each year.
  • Develop and implement the work plan and accountability measures for the Development team
  • Design and ensure strong development operations, including data entry and management, as well as donor acknowledgments, gift processing, and income reconciliation with the Finance team
  • Audit, design, and improve internal development processes and systems that result in greater efficiency of department operations
  • Develop and manage the Development department budget
Qualifications
  • At least six years of progressive experience in fundraising including record of success in expanding donor bases through cultivation and stewardship, demonstrating a solid track record with developing and maintaining relationships with individual and corporate donors, securing foundation grants, and overseeing fundraising events
  • At least three years of experience fundraising for an organization with a minimum $4M and growing operating budget
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, with fundraising certification preferred
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Experience developing strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Superior experience in CRM database management and producing sophisticated database analytics
  • Superior project management skills - including planning, analysis, decision-making, problem-solving, and multitasking capabilities
  • Superior initiative, drive for results, and self-assessment skills
  • Expertise in leading individuals and teams in setting and achieving challenging goals
  • Experience managing board and other volunteer ambassadors.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, and coach a team, to manage up and across, and to inspire and mobilize staff and colleagues toward big goals
  • Fundraising experience in social justice and/or women's rights communities preferred
  • Comfortable and thrives in a techy, paper-less environment and adept at navigating cloud-based systems and applications
