Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited was established through the merger of The Sumitomo Trust and Banking Co., Ltd with Chuo Mitsui Trust and Banking, Ltd. on April 1, 2012. Department Overview

The Americas Division ("AD") was established in the Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited, New York Branch) ("SMTBNY") to perform corporate functions and supervise U.S. entities. Established under the AD are the "Global Banking Unit ("GBU"), Americas Division" and "Global Markets Unit ("GMU"), Americas Division" which performs business functions. The Credit Investment Management Department ("CIM") is responsible for the booking and administering of (i) leveraged loan assets and (ii) structured product assets including CLOs (note investments and warehousing facilities) and MML Senior Financing through maturity or refinancing in accordance with the Branch's lending policy.

Position Overview

Supports Co-Head of Department in directing, developing strategy and controlling execution of the departmental functions and plans with a focus on structured product investment. Recommends objectives, policies, and plans for the department. Develops ways to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity. May have direct report subordinate staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Works with Co-Heads of Department to formulates and implements business plans to achieve the Branch's goals. Directs investment/portfolio management strategy for CIM based on accurate market perception, in consensus with Head Office and in close consultation with management.
  2. Assists in managing the department operations including employees by updating and maintaining job descriptions, completing performance reviews, and providing compensation recommendations.
  3. Provides expert views and opinions on investment guidelines, changing circumstances, portfolio refocusing recommendations, etc.
  4. Ensures compliance with the investment guidelines.
  5. Assists in (1) directing contacts and negotiations with agent banks, arrangers, managers, holders, and brokers for specific assets, to source potential new assets or to dispose of the existing assets in the portfolio, (2) formulating and modifying the department's sourcing strategy and ensuring its achievement and (3) promoting business relationships to enhance sourcing opportunities.
  6. Provides credit oversight to credit analysts and assists in asset selection, individual investment and disposal based on information from the department's analysts, in accordance with investment guidelines.
  7. Plans skills training and career development of the department's personnel.
  8. Ensures coordination, cooperation and consensus with other departments.
  9. Responsible for all departmental oversight in the absence of the Department Manager.
  10. Performs all functions as assigned by management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  1. MBA degree or equivalent with 10+ years of experience in lending or a bachelor's degree in finance or economics with at least 15 years of related experience. CFA preferred.
  2. Excellent knowledge of modern portfolio theories and techniques used by loan asset managers.
  3. Capable of executing client requests and meetings.
  4. Advanced in Microsoft 365 (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Access).
  5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  6. Strong knowledge of the banking industry, its products and services, especially US credit market and products such as fund finance, HYL, CLO and MML. Applies knowledge in area of specialization to produce "value-added" results.
  7. Contributes to and/or influences unit revenue generation and profitability. Understands the impact of expenses on the Bank's bottom line and acts accordingly to minimize expenses.
  8. Responsible for compliance in area of responsibility. Identifies and understands the risks and laws involved in the department's operations.
  9. Ability to manage a team of employees and provide useful guidance and feedback for their development
