Job Summary:

Responsible for managing a portfolio of delinquent real estate loans, including first and second mortgages, as well as home equity loans and lines of credit, with a focus on accounts that are late stage. The Real Estate Loan Resolution Specialist will work to recover outstanding balances while maintaining a high level of member service and adhering to all relevant regulations and company policies. Expertise in avoiding final action by resolving accounts to include analytical ability to identify forbearance, workout and modification options.Independent decision-making and taking swift action are crucial for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Account Management: Handle a portfolio of delinquent real estate loan accounts (late stage), including first and second mortgages, and home equity loans and lines of credit.
  • Large Balance Resolution: Experience with large balance account resolution.
  • Communication: Contact members via phone, email, text and mail to discuss their accounts and negotiate repayment plans.
  • Follow-Up: Follow up on promises to pay and ensure payments are received as agreed.
  • Negotiation: Work with members to find suitable solutions to resolve delinquent accounts, including payment arrangements, forbearance, modifications and settlements.
  • Avoid Foreclosure: Utilize available tools and resources to avoid foreclosure. If foreclosure cannot be avoided, work quickly to ensure the highest recovery potential.
  • Loss Mitigation: Analyze account situations to determine potential loss and take action to mitigate loss when possible.
  • Valuation of Collateral: Order valuations to determine risk, must be proficient in the valuation of real estate collateral to assess and make informed recommendations.
  • Resource Utilization: Review accounts for options and use all available resources for optimum outcomes and minimal loss.
  • Independent Decision Making: Make independent decisions and take swift action to resolve delinquent accounts effectively and efficiently.
  • Build Trust: Develop and maintain trust with members by handling their situations with empathy, transparency, and respect.
  • Mentoring: Mentor early and mid-stage collectors, providing guidance, support, and sharing best practices.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of all collection activities, communications, and agreements in the company's system.
  • Compliance: Ensure all collection activities comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).
  • Legal Documentation: Ensure proper default notices and other required legal documents are sent in a timely manner.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with other departments to resolve complex account issues.
  • Member Service: Provide excellent member service by handling all interactions professionally and respectfully, aiming to maintain positive member relationships.
  • Professional Demeanor: Provide excellent member service while maintaining a firm but professional demeanor.
Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in collections, preferably in the auto finance industry or credit union.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • High level of integrity and professionalism.
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Ability to handle difficult conversations and situations with tact and empathy.
