The Capital Project Delivery team is responsible for the execution of design and construction projects in Metra's Capital Program. Major areas of ongoing project activity include: Stations & Parking (new stations, major rehabs, smaller updates); Bridges (repairs, upgrades, complete replacements); and Metra Facilities (yard facilities, mechanical shops, office buildings; crew facilities). The team also provides design expertise in various engineering disciplines for track, infrastructure, structure and signal work involving other railroads.

Reporting to the Director, Construction within the Capital Project Delivery group, the Senior Construction Project Engineer will be responsible for field coordination of multiple large and complex construction projects, including major bridge construction work, the most complex of all infrastructure engineering jobs; manage third-party Construction Managers, ensuring all tasks are completed, issues are promptly addressed, and work is performed in accordance with bid specifications and Quality Management Plan; and coordinate, plan, and document reviews for interaction with municipal and state agencies for assigned projects.

The primary duties include manage the performance of Metra's 3rd party Construction Management consultant, ensuring the CM performs according to contract terms including completion of all construction tasks and adherence to Metra's Quality Management Plan and Metra's Safety requirements.

Provide guidance for typical daily engineering situations on assigned projects. Provide Professional Engineer level review of engineering issues on projects managed by other team members.

Coordinate construction projects with railroad operations, Metra engineering labor forces and third parties. Work with the Engineering management team to develop specific resource requirements and schedules for required Metra labor.

Review and ensure all contract modifications, change orders, and monthly pay applications are complete and correct.

Advise on responses to contractors request for information (RFI) and record of contractors' contacts (ROCC).

Works under both inside and outside environmental conditions under prevailing conditions of heat, cold, rain, and snow.

Candidates can expect salary offers that range from the minimum to the mid-point of the salary range.

Requirements

1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a school accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET). Advanced degree or additional studies in Structural Engineering preferred.

2. In addition to a #1, must have 10 years of civil engineering experience, with at least five years in construction and two years with bridge construction projects.

3. State of Illinois Registered Professional Engineer license is required.

4. Comprehensive knowledge of:

modern construction methods, materials, and equipment. applicable computer software packages and applications, including CAD. 5. Considerable knowledge of:

OSHA General Construction Standards and construction and engineering technology codes. applicable local, state, and federal codes, regulations, and requirements. 6. Good knowledge of bridge design and construction methods.

7. Knowledge of:

project costing and control. the difference in general responsibilities of a 3rd party Construction Manager as compared to the responsibilities of the General Contractor in a large construction project. 8. Strong:

organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills. verbal and written communication skills. interpersonal skills in dealing with contractors and all levels of management. 9. Skilled in reading and interpreting working drawings, technical specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

10. Good cost estimating and contract management skills.

11. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis in Word, Excel, and Outlook.

12. Ability to:

review construction project related problems, analyze the situation effectively and efficiently, and propose appropriate alternative resolution(s). manage multiple construction projects simultaneously. review and understand complex multi-year construction project schedules. 13. Must be:

able to operate a vehicle and be willing to travel within Metra's 6-county region. available to work flexible hours in the early morning, late afternoon, evenings, or weekends. Preferences:

Railroad specific experience.
