A typical day in the life of this role includes: directing the Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and all Accounting responsibilities; preparing comprehensive financial reporting for all Orlans Companies; assisting management partners to make critical decisions about the Company's future in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), current trends, insurance needs, and regulations.

What can you expect in your role as an Orlans Corporate Controller

Financial Management & Planning (40%)

  • Establish and implement short and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Develop and implement finance, accounting, billing, and auditing procedures.
  • Oversee long-term budgetary planning and costs management in alignment with Orlans strategic plan.
  • Provide analysis and assess organizational performance against both the annual budget and long-term strategy.
  • Develop and direct the implementation of strategic business and/or operational plans, projects, programs, and systems.
  • Assist in establishing yearly objectives and selecting and engaging outside consultants (auditors, investment advisors).
  • Create, coordinate, and evaluate the financial programs and supporting information systems of the company to include budgeting, tax planning, and conservation of assets.
  • Provide analysis and metrics to assist operational decisioning.
Leadership (15%)
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate department team members.
  • Lead and manage the finance team, providing guidance and direction to ensure that the team is achieving its goals.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the finance team.
  • Maintain close partnership with business unit leaders.
Risk Management (15%)
  • Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal budgetary reporting requirements.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate internal control safeguards.
  • Analyze financial statements to pinpoint potential areas of opportunity.
  • Oversee the various levels of insurance coverage (Professional liability, cyber, general, etc.) and work with insurance carriers to balance risk/premium costs.
  • Ensure management of financial compliance and interface with auditors and clients
  • Provide oversight and controls for fiduciary/ trust accounts
Budgeting & Cashflow (10%)
  • Oversee the approval and processing of revenue, expenditure, and position control documents, department budgets, ledger, and account maintenance and data entry.
  • Oversee budgeting and the implementation of budgets to monitor progress and present financial metrics both internally and externally.
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting.
  • Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes a minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.
  • Analyze cash flow, cost controls, and expenses to guide business leaders.
  • Optimize the handling of banking relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash positions.
  • Maintain banking data and account structure (online access, check signers, wire approvers, etc.)
Reporting and Record Keeping (20%)
  • Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the CEO and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations.
  • Coordinate the preparation of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, and information reports.
  • Coordinate the preparation of all year-end reporting, including schedules for external CPA, 1099 reporting and filing with IRS, etc.
  • Ensure records systems are maintained in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards.
  • Understand all state unclaimed property rules and ensure monies are escheated according to
  • Provide information to attorneys regarding balances in various IOLTA accounts to ensure compliance with state laws.
  • Stay current on all business license requirements and complete the required documentation/payments.
  • Lead and direct use of financial software to create efficiencies.
These are the areas of knowledge and expertise we are seeking:
  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance or related field required; MBA strongly preferred
  • CPA preferred;
  • 10+ years of experience in accounting;
  • 7+ years of experience in management position;
  • Advanced accounting skills required;
  • Advanced computer skills required; expertise in Excel required;
  • Ability to project and predict; strong data analysis skillset
  • An individual that values collaboration with others in the organization;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking ability;
  • Understanding of information systems development and implementation;
