Description

Purpose of this Position:

This Financial Accountant is the primary person responsible for overseeing the timely posting and reconciling cash receipts. The position also has freight accounting duties and will track and monitor freight revenue and costs. In addition, the Financial Accountant will perform internal audit duties as directed by the VP of Finance. The person in this position also secondarily assists with entering payables.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for preparing, maintaining, and/or verifying a variety of accounting, financial, and statistical records, ledgers, logs, and files; gathers, assembles, tabulates, enters, checks, verifies, balances, adjusts, records, and files financial data; codes data according to prescribed accounting procedures, balances, adjusts, records, and files financial data; Reviews information to ensure accurate reporting; resolves discrepancies; establishes and maintains various files and records.

Performs special projects, studies and collects and compiles statistical and financial data for special reports as directed.

Daily/Weekly:
  • Complete daily functions associated with account reconciliation, remote deposit capture and online banking
  • Reconcile of the daily cash transactions to the AR systems as well as to the monthly GL accounts
  • Verify that wire transfers post and balance daily.
  • Communicate customer service related issues/problems to managers as it related to customer payments and short pays
  • Performs Cash Management operations involving payment receipt, processing, deposits and other duties with accuracy and timeliness
  • Assist in the controls, balances and deposits of daily cash receipts to maximize returns
  • Prepare daily and monthly cash reports as requested
  • Sales Rep spend reports
  • Assist with entering payables
  • Upload ACH and Positive pay Files to bank.
  • Reconcile of the daily cash transactions to the A/R systems as well as to the assigned monthly GL accounts
  • Track freight revenue and costs
  • Prepare check runs
  • Analyze and research incoming payments and reconcile daily deposits and cash transactions to assure that corporate funds/assets are maintained, and assets are protected.
  • Assist in closing work orders
  • Assist in posting packing slips
  • Get mail as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Monthly/Quarterly/Yearly:
  • Back up for posting Packing Slips
  • Produce monthly reports
  • Assist with month end closing
  • Monitor cut-offs
  • Support annual audit process as required
  • Internal auditing as directed by the VP of Finance
  • Complete internal audit research and analysis
AdHoc:
  • Provide supporting documentation for audits
  • Conduct miscellaneous studies and reports as needed

Requirements

Additional Requirements:
  • BS Degree is preferred
  • Intermediate PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook skills, uses technology to improve processes
